Houston Plastic Surgeons Experiment With Lip Enhancement Procedures
Real Beauty News on Aug 22, 2008

Houston Plastic Surgeon Dr. Fabian Worthing discussed with the Houston Chronicle his new technique for "lip suspension" and says "it's not something terribly mainstream." Chances are, your plastic surgeon hasn't performed too many of them, but this procedure that boosts the upper lip might be gaining popularity. When patients complain about a flattening, saggy upper lip, and fillers like Juvederm or Restylane can't help, this procedure seems to do the trick.

The usual cause of a flattening upper lip is of course gravity and aging of the tissues. So Dr. Worthing makes tiny incisions under each side of the nose, removes a small strip of tissue and then "corrects" it, which elevates or suspends the upper lip. It does leave some small scars, which Worthing calls "inconspicuous."

A similar procedure that leaves no scars utilizes very precise incisions through the mouth and nasal passages and a suture through the upper lip to achieve the same results. It is called a lip suspension and was developed by another Houston plastic surgeon, Dr. Eser Yuksel. Both procedures typically require about 30 minutes to complete.
