CNN News recently ran a story about a small company that helped one customer barter for breast implants in Pennsylvania. Green Apple Barter Services in Pittsburgh apparently has members from a wide variety of companies and they specialize in brokering trades between those members.
"Everything from breast implants to college tuition to a horse," the story reports.
The supposedly "dire" economic situation in America has given rise to these clever schemes to root out the best buy, whether that includes a cash exchange, a coupon or simple labor. Sites like Craigslist have specific forums for bartering and according to CNN, 142,000 listings were posted in July 2008 - a figure that has doubled over the past year.
Cosmetic surgery is usually seen as a luxury expenditure so when most families are struggling to pay for gas and groceries, the industry takes a major hit.
But if your monthly income drops due to those expenses, and you're still looking to invest in your appearance, why not ask yourself, "What can I offer my plastic surgeon besides money?"
