How soon did you work out after Tummy tuck?

By foxybrown on 22 Jul 2011

I am 10 days post op and I just got my drains out. Just curious as to who has started working out again?

Here's what some doctors have to say about working out after a tummy tuck!

i hear that any major cardio exercise for the first year could increase swelling. Just saying. I ran a 1/2 marathon last December and I'm just taking 1-2 mile walk each day I can. That's the extent unless my swelling is mostly down. However, i may change my mind - I want to get back into yoga and strength training

I hit the three week mark yesterday but started on my elliptical on Thursday. My PS told me I could do anything but ab exercises one week post op.

I started back on the treadmill 1 day shy of two weeks. My PS said he would rather have me workout and be swollen then not moving at all

i started back at just before two weeks on the treadmill and eliptical. I have now worked up to 5 or 6 days per week of varying exercise and I am 10 wks post op.

how is the swelling going - I hear cardio and exercise really pumps up the swelling - which is why I'm afraid of getting back into that type of workout. I just take 1-2 mile walks each evening.

The swelling isn't bad at all. I get a little swelling around the incision area and in the pubic region but thats it.

I started light yoga and Pilates at 4 weeks post-op. Back to my full workouts and running by 9 weeks. But I didn't experience swelling like others since I had the no-drain procedure and healed very fast. Getting my workouts back was my key to sanity.

wow. My PS is adamant about not working out before the 6 weeks. Which leaves me 3 weeks to go...not bad. I guess I really want to recover well, and not re-injure anything, so I will stay put for 3 more weeks...

I started working out at 6 weeks. I find that my swelling isn't has nearly as bad as some I've read. But I do get sore and 'feel' it after a workout. I am now at 2 1/2 months and I got the ok to do Pilates again. Im happy with that. I was told that soreness and swelling will subside in a year. But I figure that much. I wont let it get me down but I wont over do it either.
