I want to get a breast augmentation
By Candy0414 on 28 Nov 2011
I'm 24 yrs old 115 lbs 5'4" and live in Memphis, TN. I want a breast augmentation but don't know where to start. My breast are very small and I'm afraid of complications. I have many questions: shouldi go outside of Memphis, which size should I consider etc. I'm about a 32A would like to be a high C or low D. Is that too much? Please help!

Hi there and welcome to RealSelf!
Here are what some doctors have to say about finding a good plastic surgeon in your area to perform your breast augmentation.
Also, this RealSelf member who had a full Mommy Makeover in Memphis really liked her doctor a lot. Hope this helps!
Hi Candy, have you had any luck finding a surgeon? I wanted a breast aug for a very long time, but it wasn't until I actually went to consult with a couple of surgeons that I felt my concerns were completely addressed.
They will talk to you about what size looks natural on you, the risks, the recovery, etc.
I would highly recommend perusing through the Q&A on this site first. A lot of the top questions address various complication concerns.
It is a major surgery, so once you have all the information only you can decide if it's worth it for you. :) Good luck!
I had implants at age 26. I also was a 32A, maybe smaller. I had almost no breast tissue at all. I am 5'5" and weighed about 98 pds at surgery (I now am about 120). I was a 36B after surgery. I am now 50 and still have my original implants. However, I had complications. I had severe numbness that has never gone away. I can't feel touch on about 90% of my breast area. I also have severe contracture- Grade 3-4. My breasts are very hard and I look weird undressed or in a swimsuit. Also, I can't have mammograms and I have a genetic high risk for breast cancer so this is a worry. I only wanted to look like a normal woman, not stacked. I wish I had opted for smaller implants because I think maybe I had nerve damage from the surgeon having to cut so much to fit in the size I got. I told the surgeon I wanted small implants but he said I wouldn't be happy and I didn't argue with him- wish I had, or gone to someone else. I think the contracture wouldn't look as weird if I was smaller. Would I do it again? I'm not sure. I felt like such a freak with no breasts and had so little confidence dating. But, now I look freaky in a different way, and nerve damage is a pretty bad side effect. I wish I had gained some weight to see if a little fat would have helped. I didn't think about what it would be like to have the implants for life. I am afraid to have a second surgery to try to correct the contracture because I am afraid of even more nerve damage and a recurrence of contracture. So, I just try to live with the problems. Fortunately, I found a wonderful husband who is sympathetic and accepts me as I am. So, long and short of it- think long and hard before doing it and remember- they are for life. You will have to deal with them at 40, 50, 80 and beyond.
Not saying don't do it....each person is different and there is no one right
answer....but just wanted to share my personal experience so you could hear another perspective. Good luck:-)
