Vitamins-Are you taking them before and/or after surgery?

By Angiemcc on 24 Mar 2011

Some doctors recommend certain vitamins and herbs to promote health and healing both pre-op and post-op, while others say to stop taking all vitamins. What are you doing about vitamins?

I take a multivitamin everyday and the PS said that was fine however he did tell me to take 1,000MG of Vitamin C 2 weeks before and after surgery so that it can help with healing and swelling.

I was told by my PS to take Arnica Montana pelets 3 days before surgery and 3 days after 3x a day and Bromelaine a week before surgery and week after as well as a muti and Vit C before and after. I must say I had zero bruising and hardly any swelling. Dont know if it was bc of the Arnica and Bromelaine but I didnt hurt taking them :)

After doing alot of reading, I think I will lay off the vitamins for awhile.

I was instructed to quit taking my vitamins 2 weeks prior to the surgery. I believe it is due to the fact that some vitamins thin your blood (I think vitamin E) which is obviously not something to encourage during surgery.
