Is a Urine Catheter normal to be left the 1st night after TT and Lipo

My doctor just informed me that i will be sent home the day of surgery with  a urine catheter/pain pump/drains and that the urine catheter will be removed the next morning.   I am freaking out about this has anyone had this done before? Is this normal? How painful and uncomfortable is it to have one?  Does it hurt to have it removed?  Sorry for all the questions I'm just really freaking out thanks and i appreciate all the input i can get.
