Does twisted cartilage post rhinoplasty align straight?

By london_23 on 06 Mar 2010

I had open rhinoplasty and have been left with a deviated septum and cartilage. It has only been 11 days since my operation and know that it is too early to tell, but is there any chance that this will heal straight? It is set in an s shape at the moment and I am finding it very distressing.

Wow sorry to hear that, I am in the exact situation as you. I had my nose surgery 20 days ago and it looks crooked and the tip leans to the right side of my face. I am sooo sad because of that, everyone keeps telling me that is because of the swelling, that I need to wait at least 6 months to a year? I am already thinking about revision with another surgeon!! We have to be patient and have faith that it will correct itself with time. Good luck...

Hi London and More, Too early to tell, it does take awhile for swelling to resolve. Patience is its own reward. I hope that you both heal well. Dr. P

Dr. Persky, so you think that my nose will correct itself with time? I had open surgery, I am Latina from an ethnic background and my skin is very thick...because of that, will it take longer to correct itself? How long do I have to wait to see the final results before I can consider having revision surgery? Thank you very much!

More, how does your nose look now? I'm in the same situation as you were in March and I'm hoping your nose ended up straightening out....this will give me some hope!

Hi More, You really need to wait at least 6 months before having revision surgery. Hopefully your nose will be straight as your swelling completely resolves. Dr. Persky
