Tummy Tuck without muscle repair

By sunshyne2011 on 27 May 2011

I'm a 22y/o with no kids that has lost over 50lbs in the past year.I've consulted two plastic surgeons thus far.Plastic surgeon #1 suggested a standard tummy w/MR because of muscle laxity,Plastic surgeon #2 suggested an extended tummy tuck with no/MR because of the possibility of having children later on.Both surgeons agree the removal of fat&skin will weigh approx. 8-10lbs,either way the reults will render a dramatic difference. I haven't seen many posts from people who have had tummy tucks without muscle repair and am interested to hear what their rocovery was like. From my understanding the recovery process is faster.

One of the nurses at my PS's office opted for no muscle repair since she had just one kid and didn't want a lengthy recovery time. It worked out well for her.

Do not lift anything heavier than 10 pounds, until the doctor said, or else about a month. If you start to see signs of infection immediately to Urgentcare. Iron pills ask blood loss during surgery. This may make your hair a little thin you will find, but no one This is temporary. Asked the other supplements, such as biotin to your doctor or visit to tummytuckguide.com.

Hi, I am a dancer/gymnast, can you tell me how long after the TT I will be able to bend over all the way backwards as I have to continue with my work after my TT. I am going in next month. Thankx.

Sunshyne, there are videos online that show how to determine if you have muscle separation or diastasis recti. Basically do a crunch and feel the linea alba (midline) of your abdomen for separation. A CT scan would also show it but probably isn't necessary. If your abdomen just feels flabby but not hard or distended, you probably don't need muscle repair. However, if you do, just go with dissolving sutures and it shouldn't be a problem if you got pregnant some years down the road.

I'm in the same boat as you are (or perhaps were). My PS said I don't need muscle repair, and the truth is, I don't want it. I just want to be rid of this excess skin and fat.
I'd also really love to understand or hear about how recovery from a TT with NO MR is? Anyone?

Hi Jennifer I didn't have MR done and I know compared to the ladies who had MR done my recovery was a walk in the park I was understandably sore for the first few weeks and had to sleep propped but no pain really. I didn't walk bent over other then for the first few days more because your scared to pull on the incision :) any specific questions let me know.

Hi Sunshyne I had my TT on May 2 and I did not have muscle tightening. It is an easier recovery less pain due to no muscle suturing. I also had a BR and really I had a couple uncomfortable days mostly gas pains. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Muscle repair is definitely the painful portion of the procedure.
