Tummy tuck for diastasis recti?

I have diastasis recti and a surgeon said I can fix it doing crunches and that the surgery came with more problems then just letting my tummy stay busted open from my pregnancy. But when I did the exercise, I felt it was getting worse and stopped. Now, I am 2.5years post-partum and it is still bad. I have a lot of discomfort, and a lot of strain in the muscles and I'm scared it's going somewhere bad. I have discomfort there in my bowels whenever I eat.
