How tight should compression garment be?

By finally done on 07 Feb 2012

Had smart lipo on flanks, upper and lower abs on Jan 31, 2012. Because of the problem area of my stomach, I used to wear all types of one piece girdle undies that ran from bra line down. We used to call the "all in onesno it now they are called shapers etc... Because of my years of wearing these things to try and achieve some sort of flatness I am not sure if I am compressing too tight. When I take the compression garment off, I have indents on my butt where it ends and my lower abs are more sore. I loosening it up some but don't want to undo what was done. Any rule of thumb would greatly help. Thanks very much.

If you can breathe they aren't tight enough! :) Just kidding. I think that you can't really get them too tight, I wear mine as tight as I can possibly handle. The garment that my doc gave me is pretty bulky so I have to double up the spanx-like compressors during the day at work and then I put the doc prescribed one back on when I'm at home. I'm only a week out, but I've noticed the garments help with swelling and I'm guessing they help with shrinking the skin back up too...but it's definitely the most uncomfortable part of my recovery to date.

Be really careful about the indents and lines created by your garment. Be sure to move garment around and massage the indents after you take it off. I wear mine moderately tight. I read it can increase swelling and bruising if too tight.

Thanks. Been a month and still wearing garment. Went from one doctor gave me to a "miracle suit" tank top type. It has a bra cup area and rubber stays on the bottom to keep it in place. Not cheap but the most comfortable with still a lot of support. You just have to make sure that you get it right cause if the bottom rolls up then it hurts! There are no seams so i'm not getting any pressure points. I even wear it to the gym!

I'm a month out too. How are your results? I have the same under garment you have. I just wonder if they really work...I've read mixed reviews.

Doing well. Still a little numb on flanks but I think that it's from sitting at work. Have found that the best garment to wear now is the tank top miracle suit. I wear one that is not as tight for sleeping cause the suit is too snug and the rubber things to hold the bottom down bother me at night. I am down 1pant size and have no pain. Back at the gym. So glad I had it done
