Thick skin/Rounded Nose Tip - Open or Closed approach?

By Pianist on 11 Mar 2010

I had a question regarding a tip-plasty done under IV sedation..would a thick skinned-rounded nose tip (and you want a triangular tip) best benefit from an open tip-plasty or closed tip-plasty? I know many use the open approach since it gives more options to work with the tip..however I recently heard some say the closed-approach is best since it is more conservative and "enhances" rather than changes, the patient's nose. Most nosejobs in males result in a changed look rather than a bit nicer enhancement. This is for males, I've noticed in the pics. Which is best? Thank you

Hi P, The best approach is the one that your rhinoplasty surgeon feels is best to accomplish the goals of the surgery. In most cases of thick, oily skin, an approach is preferred for the changes to the tip. Good luck and be well. Dr. P
