Still swelling 5 months later

I has closed rhinoplasty 5 months ago and was unhappy with my results since the beginning but my doctor didn't want to see me again after my 3 month appointment and didn't want to listen to my concerns. Ive been taping my nose every night since one month post op but still feel like i have some supratip fullness.

My nose looks decent for about 4 hours in the morning after i remove the tape but then it seems to puff back up in the supratip area. Do i have any hope it will get better?

It takes a year to settle down properly. I waited 1 year then had a revision and now 9 months on after my 2nd op it's still a little numb at the tip but getting smaller month by month, I love my nose

I think you can go with other surgeon in your region. This is the serious problem Rhinoplasty Colombia can help you for this problem because they have an experienced team of surgeons.

AHHH it's angering me seeing people post that swelling is usually gone after a year! NO IT'S NOT! Sometimes... BUT not for everyone... it sometimes takes 2 years... which was my case! Read my story below.

It can take up to 2 1/2 years to heal..... Read my story below! People if you have or are going to have a rhinoplasty and you have thick skin PLEASE read. PLEASE read it all before you jump to conclusions! I had a rhinoplasty in July of 2010 at the age of 19. I did my research and found a good plastic surgeon (Dr. David Kim from Beverly Hills) I have thick skin. I initially had a huge tip and overall a big nose and wanted to reduce the size, perfect the shape, and achieve a "defined" look. When I came out of that surgery room it looked like he had butchered me. I swear my nose looked like Elmer Fudd! I was also having difficulty breathing afterwards. For TWO freaking years! I cried ALOT. My parents had to call 911 multiple times because I seriously "lost it" everyday because I was convinced he made it worse.... LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING. It TRANSFORMED into something wonderful!! He got about 90 % to the nose I wanted. I love it now!! And my breathing improved. IF YOU HAVE THICK SKIN YOU MUST BE EXCEEDINGLY PATIENT!!! I cannot stress that enough. Do not let anyone tell you that you will see results in only 3-4 months! That's ONLY for thin-skinned patients. Thick skinned patients will get good results but they must wait 1 1/2-3 years, seriously. But in the end it is sooo worth it. I would post photos but I do not want to just for privacy purposes. The difference between the 1 month after surgery and the 2 years after surgery is mind boggling. I went from looking like a monster to looking like a model. Seriously, do not cry or worry until you gave it AT LEAST a year and a half if you have thick skin. I am posting this because I really wish someone else would have posted something like this when I was going through my healing process! Take it easy on yourself and give it time, alot of time!! One year sometimes isn't enough for people! It wasn't for me! I had to wait 2 years... But like I said soooooo worth it!!

Hey Diana, Yes it can take up to a year to heal, mine took that long, but im still not overall happy with the shape of my nose, the shape is the final shape but the swelling will go down a bit. I have thick oily skin so i use alot of those clearasil acne pads to help my skin not look so puffy.
give it a little more time but it should be close to the final shape!!!

Yeah I have the same skin mine is oily skin and my tip is what looks big and still very swollen. Thanks for your help! :)

I had my rhinoplasty march 23 and today is september 16, so its about to be 6 months and I'm really not to happy I mean I've seen changes since I took of my cast but my doctor keeps telling me I'm still very swollen and recovery can be up to 8-12 months. My nose is still pretty sensitive after 5 months. Is that normal?

sorry i forgot to say something , I have asymmetric nose after removing the cast and it still existing , Is that normal?

Thank You, its not what i ever imagined wanting but im not depressed about it like i used to be, If i ever have the money i might try and have it redone but im not sure i want to go through all that again, overall its okay. :)

Hi Bosi the tip will be the last place to heal i still saw results even after the first year and if your nose looked good when you had the cast removed you can have hope that the end result will be great!!

the same here , I have been 5 months rhinoplasty and unfortunately I have very puffy tip although after removing the cast my nose seemed to be good , but now I am not satisfied :S and depressed , Is there any hope?????

Same situation for me. It's been 6 months. But to add injury to insult, my nose gets swollen every morning, when sweating, or warm weather.

When I had rhinoplasty, my surgeon had me come in for a 1 year post-op appointment, which I really appreciated. Do you have any front-view photos you could post?

Hey, I got open rhinoplasty on the 25th of June 2010, so i am almost 5 months post-op and believe me my nose is swollen as hell. I mean, I hope that bulbous tip is swelling, otherwise im gonna have to go in for revision. So i fully understand you. But from all the research ive done on the topic, it is basically necessary to wait about 12-18 months before considering revision. Check out pics of my nose and maybe u will know ur not alone... all the best.

its been 7 months and im still taping it, its my only hope, after i have it taped it looks okay for a liftle bit but no-one knows i had a nose job either. Whats a nose clip, how does that work. If yours is just the tip i hear the tip is the last to heal. My area of concern is the part right above the tip. oh also if it looked good when u got the cast off then i think you are in good shape and that its just swelling

How is your nose now? I am having the same problem except I'm using a nose clip instead of tape! I am almost 3 months along and am unhappy. My tip actually looked good when I had my cast removed and now it looks like it did before surgery. No one even knows I had a rhinoplasty!

I got rhinoplasty in june 24 and it is now Dec 1 so its been 5 months. I am very dissapointed and discouraged with the results in fact not one of my friends or family has seen an improvement, just the opposite they say it looks worse... HELP... what should I do?

Most plastic surgeons will want to wait a minimum of 6 months before considering a revision to a rhinoplasty. Did your doctor not want to see you at all after 3 months, or just wait a little longer? In some cases one may need to wait a full year before deciding the final outcome. It can be frustrating for the patient, but most of the time waiting pays off. Sometimes a second opinion can give you another perspective. Good luck!
