First shower after drains are removed

By Kat72 on 12 Dec 2012

I have read so many posts about the first shower after drains are removed is wonderful. So last night I was so excited to get in the shower and it was terrible! I could not touch my stomach, I could not bend down to wash my legs, and I hate the way my stomach is numb when the water sprayed on the front of me.  Am I the only one that feels this way? Is everyone using soap on your stomach and touching the incision/strips. Maybe the second shower will be better - maybe they are better in the morning? I would love to hear what soap you are using and how you are feeling when you take a shower! Kat

Hi Kat, I agree the first couple of showers were more work than wonderful for me. I guess you do feel a hair more human after washing the stink off, but it's not all it's cracked up to be, right? I am 5 weeks PO as of tomorrow and it definitely gets better and easier. I can absolutely reach my legs now, can shave and so forth. The tummy area is still numb, but maybe I have gotten used to the feeling of running water on it?? Now that I am up and about like a regular person, i shower every morning again. As for soap, I have been using Dial- the white one. That is the soap I always use. It has some anti-bacterial stuff in it and I like the way it smells. I use a clean loofa with the soap and gently loofa my belly and incision area every morning. Good luck! Keep on recovering! :)
