Seat for the shower? Necessary or not?

By PeachyKeen on 16 Jan 2012

How many of you bought a shower seat? Was it really necessary? It's not terribly expensive, but I don't want to buy a whole lot of things I can't use very much. If it's a must-have, I'll buy one. But if not, I can deal with it if it is only needed a few times.

I didn't buy one. Wish I had for the first week but after that I wouldn't have needed it so it isn't really necessary. I didn't take a shower until my drains were removed at day 12 if that makes a difference. I hope this helps.

Yes!!!! I didn't buy one but my shower has a built in seat... I totally used it the first couple of weeks so I could "linger" in the shower...the hot water felt so good everywhere! Without the seat I would have worn out trying to hold my drain...wash my long hair...ect.

I used a step ladder too. Also people have mentioned plastic lawn chairs IF you had something that would fit in the shower use it.. I would rather have a toilet raiser

I just used a stepping stool! It had 2 steps and it fit well in the shower. It really helps the first 2 weeks. I had a mini TT, lipo my flanks, inner/outer thigh. So I moved really slow and my drain tubes were still in. So the stool allowed me to wash myself at a more leisure pace. My thighs were very sore and the drain tube was annoying. I wore my undies in the shower so the drain tube can be place inside. That allowed me to use both hands to shower with. Good luck

I didn't buy one - PS wouldn't ok a shower until both of my drains came out - which thankfully was at one week post op. My first PO shower felt sooooo good! The tip on using a plastic lawn chair is great! Trust your instincts...If you don't use it, take it back to the store. Good luck!
