Hi,

I actually just had Restalyne placed on top of my orbital bone and it has done wonders for the sunken eye look I had going on. I am actually shocked at the difference. It is a huge improvement. My doctor recommended Sculptra which I think I will follow through with as the Restalyne treatement kind of proved the point a big improvement can be had by filling in that area. I didn't want to commit to Sculptra in case I didn't like the change in my looks as a result of a filler.

Good-luck.

Allison

Hi,
Was this placed under your eye where the hollows are (on me, anyway..) OR under your eyebrow??
Did they say how long this will last?
What part of the country is your doctor located?
Thanks for any info.

DO NOT let any doc place sculptra under the eye. It is not approved for the periobital region, it forms lumps that will probably last a good many years of your life. Start liking yourself, you are probably gorgeous without the risk of these fillers. By the way they have little research on the use of sculptra outside of folks with AIDS.

Hi ,

I am planning to have Sculpra injections. It is recommended by my dermatologist!. I do not know if it is safe and what kind of resutls it does. Under my eyes. I have small circles(bags). I want that to be corrected. Also the sides of my chin. This region of my face has to be lifted. Is sculpra any good? Anybody has had sculpra experienced?
And are you satisfied with the process?

Thanks

Madeleine.

Yes, it can do wonders. Just make sure your DR. has experience with the filler he is using. They are all diffrent and very "user dependend" for the result

I had dark circles under my eyes and my dermatologist said Sculptra was best.
DON"T DO IT! I now have lumps under both eyes and it looks very bad. Many dermatologists won't use it because lumps are a common problem. It even says this in the brochure! Use something else. This is a nightmare.

I had restylene injected under my eyes. It is now 8 months later and it still looks terrible. It's lumpy, the injection sites are very obvious, pinprick bruising is still apparent. I looked much better before having this done. I absolutely hate it.

Hi,

I found a one page summary that tells alot about Sculptra.

You can find a copy here: http://www.muschealth.com/facialplastics/sculptra/SculptraPatientGuide.pdf

I think it has a lot of good info in it and will let you know what to expect.

Hope this helps

How long was it before the hard lumps formed? I had Sculptra injected 18 months ago and the lumps just stated forming under my right eye. Is there any treatment to get rid of the lumps?
Thank you

Yes don't touch it!!....I had the product put in my face and spent years and many $'s trying to get rid of it after it went hard and lumpy. I have also heard of it doing the same thing to others. Restylane is the only product I would trust.

Suzy Q

At least with Restylane the body will get rid of it naturally. Sculptra is trouble ++ and in my case was permanent which meant surgery was the only way to dispose of it.

Sensible reply Sophie. After my experience I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, nor recommend it to anyone....absolute disaster of a product, should be banned!!

Allison be grateful for the Restylane results. DON'T use Sculptra....disaster from first hand experience, caused me nothing but tears, angst and great expense to have removed. Would NEVER recommend to anyone.

Hi suzy, i8 have just read your comments regarding sculptra, to say the least i am concerned i have just had this done 6 weeks ago not under my eyes but in the cheek area to give back volume that i had lost with age. I was advised that lumps can occur if the massage routine isnt followed for the 1st ten days. However yhaving read some of the comments it would seem these lumps can occur after some considerable time am i right?

I wish I would have seen this website prior to getting my Sculptra injections. I had injections done under both eyes. First in November 2007 and again in January 2008. After the first injection, I developed a pea sized lump under my left eye. My dermatologist told me it would go away. I now have large lumps under my left eye and a medium lump under my right eye. My dermatologist has been using the V-beam laser on these bumps with a little bit of success. Suzy Q, how did you get rid of your lumps?

To anyone considering Sculptra - Do not use it!!!! I am extremely self concious now - I hate the side effects of Sculptra. I have reviewed websites on Sculptra and they state you may develop bumps, but they will be small and not visible and will go away. That's a lie! Not one of the websites or pamphlets talk about the large visible bumps you may develop. Will the bumps ever go away on their own? No one knows!

By the way, I was extremely diligent in massaging the injection sites. I followed the after care instructions and I still had horrible side effects!

You know... if you people are afraid of injections around the delicate tissues of the eyes... there's a new facial volumizing cream by ReVive. It plumbs up the skin and under-lying fat tissue using stem cell growth factors.
It adds volume to problem areas, like the rings (troughs) below the lower eyelid. It can also add volume to cheekbones.
It's called ReVive Intensite Volumizing Serum.
Very new, very revolutionary and VERY expensive.
$600 retail for just ONE ounce!!!!
But you can probably find it cheaper on Ebay.

You should ask your doctor about massaging procedures.
It's diffent for each person.
Sculptra is a GREAT product because it's completely natural.
It stimulates the growth of your OWN collagen and fat tissue under your skin.

Wow! Can't believe it. I'm from Miami and I went to a place in Aventura to see a doctor about my bags under my eyes. He suggested me "Sculptra" At first I was surprised that I would need something like that, by then I never new about it. I'm 31 years old and I've always had bags under my eyes. Sometimes they are visible and other times they're OK. However I feel that is time to do something about them.

The Doctor told me that injections of Scultra will do great and will make my bags disappear by making my cheeks fuller.(he would inject my cheeks only. He never mention to inject my eyes) Therefore, I will not need and eye lid surgery. AT first it seams pretty cool and I thought It can be a good alternative to my problem but the cost of each treatment is to much... I mean! I don't know, or may be I'm ignorant about this type of thing but $1500 each time is way to much money for injections! The Doctos suggested me at least 3 sessions, so we are talking about $4500... I mean come on! Is Botox That expensive?

And now that I've had red some of your comments I feel afraid to do it and go through all that, besides the monetary cost that will be involve.

I don't know!
I hope you can find a solution to your problem. After going through your sessions with so much expectations.

Hindsight is 20/20! Here is what I have learned about Sculptra; when Sculptra was being tested for FDA approval it was only tested in the cheek and nasalabial areas. It has not been tested in the eye (periorbital) area.

Because the cheek and nasalablial are thicker, the nodules that 52% of patients develop(this warning was recommended by FDA)are typically non-visible. The FDA also stated that "extreme caution must be exercised in periorbital and perioral areas." The FDA further stated Sculptra is only intended for "facial fat loss, lipoatrophy, caused by HIV or its treatment."

The FDA has further warnings regarding how Sculptra is not like other fillers and that overcorrection and filling too close to the skin surface is going to be a problem for undertrained doctors and the FDA recommended training for this product. Stay away from it- unless your Doctor is super Doc!

thanks guys i am sooooooooooo glad i found this site WAS going to get this stuff put in my face in the very near future no chance now

Sculptra is FINE for use around the eyes IF applied by a VERY experience physician.
The skin around the eyes is very thin. That's why the Sculptra has to be placed well below the skin into the muscle surrounding the periorbital eye area.

I have use sculptra throughout the face with excellent results. Thank goodness I have never had any bad outcomes.

However, I know of several collegues with very high "granuloma rates". These are the little (or not so little) bumps that people are talking about.

Since others seem to be having this problem, I have stopped using it. Maybe I'll go back to it in the future. . .but right now I want to wait until we have more information.

Restylane or Juvederm (hyaluronic acid fillers) are great under the eyes.

I found your article to be very interesting since I too suffer from hollowness beneath my eyes. Have you actually used this product called ReVive Intensite Volumizing serum and if so, where did you buy it. Did it do the trick ? Is this applied every day and does it last.? Please let me know cause it is something I am very, very interested in as I am afraid of inections in my eye area. I am reading so many horror stories that if there is a serum that could do the trick, why would anyone want to get injections. Looking forward to your feedback. Thanks

I am hoping that there is a volumizing serum that can be used under the eyes to plump them up again as when I was younger. Any ideas what to buy. I hate the thought of getting injections beneath my eyes. very thin skinned around that area. would prefer something more of a voumizing serum than shots. Please someone, if you know of something, write me. thanks

I just started using the ReVive Intensite Volumizing Serum last week. They say it takes about 2-3 weeks of usage to start seeing any results.
I even traded e-mails with Dr. Gregory Bays Brown, the founder of ReVive. He told me there are two growth factors in the serum called EGF and KGF. These stimulate the epidermis to grow collagen and re-volumize fat cells.
So use the serum in areas where you need it... like the troughs below the eyes that give the appearance that you have bags. I got my 1oz. bottle on Ebay for only $178. Retail in the store it's $600!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll keep you update Debra.

Please let me know if the v beam has helped. I have a large stone size lump under my eye which is very visible. It seems to be getting bigger. My dermatologist refuses to accept a problem and stated I benefited from the injection. Not true. I now need to know what options I have.

Sufi, I had two sessions, four weeks apart. The V-beam significantly softened the lumps, but did not diminish their size. Four weeks after the second V-beam session, my derm (who has been taking great care of me)gave me a session with the Fraxel laser. The Fraxel treatment was very painful, but if completely diminished the lump under my right eye and significantly shrunk the two under my left eye. My derm is going to give me one more Fraxel treatment at the end of June, so hopefully if will diminish the lumps under my left eye. Just so you know, I can still feel the lumps under my right eye, but they are not visible.

Listen everyone.
Sculptra should NOT be causing these problems... especially with tiny nodules. It means your doc didn't know how to inject it properly!!!!!!!!!!
You all have to go to one of the FEW Sculptra experts in the country. I mentioned a few of them below.
These are the doctors who have been using Sculptra for MANY years, and have treated THOUSANDS of patients.

i too would like to fill in the volume lost under my eyes. they look hollow and sunken. Can someone tell me if they did a procedure to correct this and if so, how did it turn out. Many thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this for me

what is the best product for under eye hollowness. Has anyone tried a procedure where it actually worked and villed in the under eye area that has lost volume through the years. If so, can you please let me know the best way to go to correct this unfortunate aging process. Anything you guys could suggest would be a big help. thanks

I had Sculptra ijected under my eyes, close to my nose. Palpable nodules at first then continued to get bigger. All the massaging did not work. Then I had steroid injections which resukted in indentations are Sculptra, lumps still visible. Then surgery to remove. Able to flatten out a bit and add fat injections to smooth. Still have large lumps. Did laser leave scarring or cahnges in skin? Are lumps gone?

I'VE USED SCULPTRA 4 TIMES AND LOVE IT! I'VE DONE IT 3 TIMES IN MY PER-ORBITAL (UNDER EYE AREA) BECAUSE I HAVE THE HOLLOW LOOK UNDER MY EYES. IT WORKS GREAT FOR THAT AREA.

YOU CAN GET LITTLE LUMPS IF THE PRODUCT IS NOT INJECTED FAST ENOUGH AND IF INJECTED WITH 2 BIG OF A NEEDLE. THESE BUMPS, LUMPS WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL THEM ARE JUST THE PRODUCT CAKING UP..THIS IS WHY THE DR HAS TO CONTIUE TO SHAKE (MIX) THE PRODUCT UP WHILE INJECTING IT.HE HAS TO CONTINUE TO SHAKE THE SYRINGE WHILE INJECTING.
IF THIS DOES OCCUR ALL THE DR HAS TO DO IS INJECT THE LUMP WITH A LITTLE BIT OF SALINE AND IT WILL BE DELUTED AND GO AWAY. SO YOU CAN SEE THIS PRODUCT IS VERY USER DRIVEN... YOUR DR HAS TO KNOW WHAT HE IS DOING.

Hi Camille. Can I ask you who did your Sculptra procedure? Most doctors have NO BUSINESS using this stuff.
You have to be specially trained by one of the Dermik Labs instructor MDs... like Frechette or Fitzgerald or Mest or Humble. Otherwise you're BEGGING for trouble. In the proper hands, Sculptra is an AMAZING volumizer. Only fat grafting is more natural.

I had injections for my dark circles and it is one of the worst mistakes I have ever made I have two big lumps under my eyes I used to have large pretty green eyes now they look smaller and not open all the way. On my right eye the lump go all the way into the corner of my eye no amount of makeup can cover these awful things. The day it was done they used two full syringes on one eye cause they said my circles were so deep but I did tell them that this runs in my family I would do anything to have my circles back. For weeks I could hardly see and it looked like someone punched me out my eyes were so black and blue. I went back to the Doctor and injected me again with steroids and it did not do anything. Do you know of anything that can be done to get rid of these lumps and give me back my circles back a little concealer always took care of it.

Paul
Paul
6/25/08

You're so right.
Only a few MD's really know how to use Sculptra.
Because it's a stimulatory filler (stimulates your own collagen to fill in the volume)... it is used VERY differently than HA fillers like Restylane and Juvederm.
The injection technique is VERY different. And it has to be done in tiny stages.

Lori,

Unfortunately you can massage your face ten times a day, seven days a week and once a "lump or lumps" appear, truly it isn't "your fault" for lack of "not properly massaging or your not being diligent enough", Please.

Your body is rejecting something foreign called poly lactic acid having been injected into a thin skinned area of your face...

But I am sure your doctor will carefully inform you of this quite common reaction so you, his patient, can than make an educated decision on the safety of this product and the risk you are willing to take! RIGHT...

Paul
Paul
8/30/08

Once again. It's VERY important that you seek one of the EXPERTS when looking to get Sculptra treatments. It's injection technique is VERY different than that of Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse, etc.
There may be only a dozen or so MD's nationwide who trained with Dermik Labs and Dr. Danny Vleggaar. If they didn't get this first-hand training... stay away. You won't get lumps or nodules if it's applied properly... even where the skin is the thinnest (around the eyes).

There is a WORLD reknowned expert on anything to do with PLA (Sculptra) in New York City. If fact, he helped develop the original product called NewFill in Europe many years ago. He also took part in the original FDA clinical trials for Sculptra in this country. His name is Dr. Gervais Frechette. (His office is on Union Square downtown.) Do a Google search of his name with the word Sculptra... and you'll see many articles about his work with the product. He also specializes in correcting any problems people may have with PLA applied from other practioners. GOOD LUCK.

Paul,
Truly, thank you very much for getting back to me and recommending an md you feel is qualified for hopefully fbo removal. I am going to check for him on the internet now.

These fbo are the worst, scarring and painful. This has been one awful experience. Hopefully, the problems will be corrected. I'm so over this unnessary problem.

Wish me luck and thanks again truly.

I've had a good response with Sculptra. I had it first done three months ago and again six weeks ago under the eye. My practitioner is from the UK, where Sculptra has been used for many years (known as New Fill there) and not just in AIDS patients. You don't have to have AIDS for this product to work. The product is meant to promote your natural collagen building process to fill sunken in areas. The key is getting an experience person to administer the product. Mine has been doing it for 10 years. She is strict about being conservative and going right down the bone. And of course massaging like crazy afterwards is critical. I love the results. I look like I'm 21 (I'm 31). In fact a group of college boys actually THOUGHT I was 21. I had lost a lot of weight and ended up with eye hollows, which is why I got Sculptra.

Hi,
I was reading your responses on sculptra and I have experienced the same problem. I have nodules under my eyes and they are driving me crazy. I spoke with a sculptra expert and she suggested injecting kenolog and saline unto the nodule and it has helped alot, but I have gotten injections for four weeks now and I know my skins tissue is going to end up breaking down from so much injecting. Anyone who is considering this procedure, DON'T. It has really been a nightmare.

The kenalog will cause the area to collapse. I ended up with huge dents and then got fat injections to fill that in. Nightmare. I then started taking prednisone and was amazed at how the "bumps" reduced in size. In conjunction I use a machine called "Freo" to this area twice per day. Basically it is an "icing:" machine. I have wonderful results. I think eventually it just breaks down on its own. I w

The word "nightmare" seems to be the way so many of us are experiencing from this product... This is such a horrible way to be conned. I sit here emailing you back with a surgical bandaid to support my right eye socket area.

The area around my mouth is like "the solar system". One massive lump on each side of my mouth, with little spin offs nodules circling.

I really wish the md would have been a more honest person and if he needed the money so badly just robbed my handbag.

cassie

The doctor who told me about the kenalog also said to mix it with saline so it dilutes it and do it a little at a time with a 30 gauge needle. This will prevent the collapsing. Mine have gotten extremely smaller, but not gone yet. Are yours still there or are they completely gone? also, what is the freo machine and where can I get it and are you taking prednisone pills? Thanks for your response. I am searching for the quickest safest method and I have had it for three months now and my husband doesn't even know what I did:( I refuse to lie so I just don't say anything and he doesn't say anything but I know he's wondering.

Sometimes we try to be to perfect and we don't want to age, but after this experience and I also had a bad botox experience, I think we just need to be happy with who God made us. Never use botox under the eye area either. Use radiesse or restalyne because they're both reversable if it goes wrong. I wish I knew that before I had this done. I know a doctor in New York who can correct this problem for you who is supposed to be the best. 90% of his cliental is correcting other doctors mistakes. Email me back if you want his info., I'm considering flying there myself soon if these nodules don't leave.

Hi Cassie,

Thank you truly for emailing me. Believe me, I was pretty happy with my God given looks, but decided to 'just' have a consulutation. I thought, wrongly, what could it hurt to just talk to this doctor about available procedures. Got swept up in what he was saying, not what he wasn't saying about the risk and it "seemed" from what I was told during the consultation, so harmless. I didn't research it myself (makes me feel even worst to just have given my trust oh and lots of wasted money away, than the side effects (actually painful). I have seen one dr. who does correcting, but he was afraid I wouldn't be happy with the correcting results. He was honest instead of just taking the money. Can you please give me the other doctor's number. Believe me, I learned a big lesson, I won't repeat.
Thank you much.

Hi there,
I actually feel really bad for my husband,
he comes homes after work dealing with day to day stress, in my case, since the side effects, not only look bad, but hurt under my eye and I am aware of this "stuff" in various other injected thin areas constantly, I am always going on about "what was I thinking", "how can I get this out"?

He certainly doesn't know how to help me, feels bad, but after a while, I sure he is thinking please, can't you move on to something else. I wish I could.

Don't do it. I had sculptra 2 weeks ago and my face has swelled I have been given steroids by the local A&E dept. The marketing blurb is wrong 3% of patients get facial edema with this treatment and you don't want to look like me I look dreadful.

dont weaste your time on fillers its only temporary

the best thing to fill "hollow eyes", the orbital area from the tear trough to the side of your eyes.. is fat injections..

its very specialised but its becoming quite popular amongst various plastic surgeons, and its not at all expensive...

im from South Africa and ive had it done by one doctor who seems to be the only one who does it..i beleive a number of doctors perform this procedure in the USA..

the doctor harvests fat from areas such as "love handles"" amd inject it into areas under the eyes...that simple....and its permanent...

Downtime is probably 2 days.. swelling will go down and the bruising around the eyes eventually disappear..

Consult your doctor or check out webistes on fat trasfers.. theres a number of websites dedicated to the subject

ive had it done and it looks great...!!!

Before trying the filler, my dermatologist used the V-beam under my eyes for dark circles that have plagued me all my life. I am shocked and pleased to report the eye circles almost disappeared after only one treatment. I'd say there's an improvement of about 95%. The whole sunken appearance is gone. There's still darkness just under each lower eyelid, where goggles were covering the area, (and he can fix that later)but the results are dramatic. I wasn't expecting the treatment to be this good for the circles. I mainly was having the V-beam for red capillaries around my nose. I'm in NYC and the treatment cost $800. To say I'm happy would be an enormous understatement!

Hi Tevang.
I used the ReVive for 3 months... with no significant results. A cream CAN'T add volume to the face. It can only reduce fine lines. To get a more youthful "reshaping" of the face... the way to go is fat-grafting, fillers (Sculptra, Juvederm, Radiesse, etc.), or wait for the new LED and Light Technology to stimulate collagen.
