Sculptra lasts for over 10 years?

By PrettyInShockingPink on 23 Apr 2010

I have been told by a Dermatolgist, who I later found supplied trial studies to the FDA, Sculptra can last up to 10 years under the skin and than added but who knows? I have contacted the Manufacture and they will not give me this information. Have any of the Doctors been able to obtain the information from Sanofi/Dermik?

The "cosmetic enhancement" MAY last 2 years. The product microspheres of poly l lactic acid do not fully degrade in the body for at least 5 years and in some people they never fully degrade. Check with the manufacturer and ask about how long the product persists in the body. Ask someone who knows about the kenetics of biomaterials.

No, I don't believe that Sculptra, also known as fine line treatment, effect will last up to ten years. My sister had this cosmetic procedure 6 months ago and she was told by her surgeon from Aurora skin clinics that the this semi-permanent fine line treatment appears to last greater than two years only.

what is "semi-permanent" anyway? They mean the cosmetic result is long lasting the medical device micro particles of poly l lactic acid are permanent with permanent problems. This polyester compound persists for years in the body and in some people will not fully degrade until well after they are dead a buried. Check with a bio materials expert. Please do not add to the false information out there on this class three medical device that is an implant.

I have found some references to the duration of PLLA in the body. All indicate that IF the junk is ever fully degraded it is well over 5 years. The followiing is from just one of several available references.
"It is questionable whether
devices made of high-molecular-weight PLLA with a degradation time of more than five years can be regarded as being
bio-absorbable from a clinical point of view. A very long
degradation time is a disadvantage in those clinical situations in which subcutaneous prominence or intra-articular
breakage of an implant may cause problems or discomfort."

4 year sculptra anniversary coming up. Still have inflammatory nodules that flare and diagnosed immune dysregulation due to chronic foreign body response. I expect this to result in yet more serious disease. I amhave told thisto will continuebe as longI as thisI crystalline, hydrophobic polyester particleforeign remains. Surgery has beena done andthat they canthave remove anymore. Sculptra is STILL THERE
The FDA trial for sculptra only studied up to two years. Many doctors feel that patients feel it lasts longer but I don't believe it has formally been studied.

Dear Sculptra Dammed, This is about one thing only "AGENDAS" for profit. The Sanofi scam in 2004, sick using HIV. Now we have the affilate Dermik. Than just find the right pimps, via SALES armed with bogus marketing tools meant to deceive a naive patient, give them to those with MDs next to the term BCPS or Dermatologist. They actually found them.. Find a lawyer / professor who understands systemic diseases now under your skin. A medical license has meaning, so we thought, also for a start the OPMC. I don't think they favor these types of doctors.

While Im at it, take the time to go to the FDA MAUDE database of adverse events from sculptra. just google FDA MAUDE and do a search putting Sculptra in the brand name. Just this year there have been numerous adverse events reported. be sure to check the date range and the pages of results in the search query. Maybe a Master injector can do some magic, but most PS think they are masters and the truth is a true master is far and few between and I would love to bet that even they have patients with problems from time to time. That is the nature of individual immune response, it is unpredictable.

Do these physician responses even read our comments? Vicryl sutures are at most 8% PLLA. Sculptra is 100% PLLA. NOT THE SAME THING. I really wish people would get their facts straight. I was told the same thing. It is at long lasting filler. very safe the same thing as absorbable sutures. I am picturing a little puddle of absorbable sutures. I learned the truth too late. I wish the physicians to said that would correct their responses.

I am 2 and a half years out from a botched sculptra experience. Still have lumps bumps and pain. I have been told that the encapsulated particles can be in my body stimulating a chronic granulomatous inflammatory response for at least 5 years and maybe more like 10. That is from a PhD pharmaceutical engineer. His company rejected PLLA as a drug delivery system because of the histologic microscopic complications. I think your physicians should know more about a product you are selling to patients. Also a Dr. from Germany familiar with NewFill said the same thing to me. BE CAREFUL of peoples faces
