Sculptra lasts for over 10 years?

I have been told by a Dermatolgist, who I later found supplied trial studies to the FDA, Sculptra can last up to 10 years under the skin and than added but who knows? I have contacted the Manufacture and they will not give me this information. Have any of the Doctors been able to obtain the information from Sanofi/Dermik?

My experience has been grim: I have been terrified mortified and angry. Not sure how long a go now but it must be approaching 5 years. Nothing at first it didn't rear its malevolent head unti 2010. I knew something was up, I had a burning sensation, aching, stinging sensation. But no physical evidence so they all thought I was mad. First lump appeared on my chin - visible but not glaringly obvious. Large enough for me to wobble up and down my chin bone. That has now either spread and fused to the bone or dissolved: Its not there now. I'm not sure because I trained myself to ignore and block it. It has gone and hurt last about 5 months ago just for 2 days out of the blue - even though it has gone. Second lump appeared high up on the right hand cheek bone. This became very obvious - I could feel people's eyes sometimes focussing on it. And it really hurt. Usually better in the morning but soon kicked in (gravity related or maybe nerve endings waking up). At about this time other nodules began down my cheek near to my nose. Also really painful. I could go on ..... Today? The pain has changed a cold ache at times but not as persistant - days can go with nothing. But it usually rears its ugly head weekly though midly in comparison. Another lump appeared on my cheek alongside my nose and it became visible: BUT now something else atrophy (waisting away) which makes the left hand side of my face in a certain light look almost as if it has been scooped out or my face has melted. NOW WHAT - and for how long long. My luck is is that I have a wonderful partner who makes me feel positive and loved. All of this has mainly affected the right side of my face. There is one small invisible bump on the left. But will that change in the future? What I can't understand is .. is why isn't this information available there seems to be so many of us out there. Has anyone experienced these changes - atrophy - new bumps - bumps 'disappearing'?

If you just had it done you will need to wait it out. Sculptra takes time. Maybe you just have swelling and it will go away? If not there is not much that you can do except report it to the company and the FDA. There is no way to unring that bell.

Hi Dru11 , I done sculptra at Aug 2013 , now already 3 months , the puffy eye(under eyebag) still. Please see the pic : http://www.realself.com/question/after-sculptra-injection-ugly-eyebags-distressing

I hyper-linked your question to make it easier for everyone to go see.  Good luck to you with the puffiness!

Hi Poor Guy, You are in the really really bad time. I do not have any good news for you. It is really about putting out fires. Doxycycline is typically recommended but does not stop the over reaction. It was not supposed to be place near your eyes. I know, I know, that's what she said. The Doctors will not answer your question because there is no answer. They are all over questions saying how great it is to inject polyester particles in your face, but when things go wrong by a board certified plastic surgeon there is nothing to be said except he should not have done that. I am almost at 6 years post sculptra. I still have weird sculptra baggage under my eyes. Also the skin has changed and is odd sculptra skin. It is just a big mess. For everyone who loves it, yay. but for those of us who hate it we really wish someone had warned us that this could and does happen.

Hi Dru11 , Did you tried any laser treatment to repair the eyebags? I mean just like facial treatment , just as C6 laser ... (non surgery)

My occuloplastics doctor who has helped me with the horror that is sculptra (done wrong by a board cert plastic surg) told me that lasers can incite additional inflammatory response to sculptra. He did not think it would be a good idea. Be sure you see a board certified occuloplastics MD specialist if it is anywhere near your eyes.

I had sculptra about 3 years ago. I had no problems but I was part of a practice session with my dermatologist's assistant. Of course, it lookeed great for a couple of years (I'm 74) but in this the third year, I could use a little freshening. Well, my whole body could use some fresheningtoo. So, I'm on a diet to get back to 135 by Thanksgiving, then I'll get some Scuptra, a tiny bit of botox and a little lip plumper (damn little) and I'll be good to go by Christmas. Then can have my hip replaced in January and look like a million bucks (dead or alive).

I had Sculptra (several great, effective treatments) over 5 years ago and yea, it's still there! Seriously.....

Yup it is still there under my eyes over 5 years and multiple corrective surgeries later. Still shows up on MRI and in biopsy. What a mess.

The "cosmetic enhancement" MAY last 2 years. The product microspheres of poly l lactic acid do not fully degrade in the body for at least 5 years and in some people they never fully degrade. Check with the manufacturer and ask about how long the product persists in the body. Ask someone who knows about the kenetics of biomaterials.

No, I don't believe that Sculptra, also known as fine line treatment, effect will last up to ten years. My sister had this cosmetic procedure 6 months ago and she was told by her surgeon from Aurora skin clinics that the this semi-permanent fine line treatment appears to last greater than two years only.

what is "semi-permanent" anyway? They mean the cosmetic result is long lasting the medical device micro particles of poly l lactic acid are permanent with permanent problems. This polyester compound persists for years in the body and in some people will not fully degrade until well after they are dead a buried. Check with a bio materials expert. Please do not add to the false information out there on this class three medical device that is an implant.

That the same thing I was told. Possibly the next round of 3 could only be 2 never the less most people need to do it each year or so. Also I was told a patient has done her cheek hollows 5 times with know results and even though the Dr. said she is one of the people that do not grow collegen she did it anyway.

I have found some references to the duration of PLLA in the body. All indicate that IF the junk is ever fully degraded it is well over 5 years. The followiing is from just one of several available references.
"It is questionable whether
devices made of high-molecular-weight PLLA with a degradation time of more than five years can be regarded as being
bio-absorbable from a clinical point of view. A very long
degradation time is a disadvantage in those clinical situations in which subcutaneous prominence or intra-articular
breakage of an implant may cause problems or discomfort."

4 year sculptra anniversary coming up. Still have inflammatory nodules that flare and diagnosed immune dysregulation due to chronic foreign body response. I expect this to result in yet more serious disease. I amhave told thisto will continuebe as longI as thisI crystalline, hydrophobic polyester particleforeign remains. Surgery has beena done andthat they canthave remove anymore. Sculptra is STILL THERE

The FDA trial for sculptra only studied up to two years. Many doctors feel that patients feel it lasts longer but I don't believe it has formally been studied.

Dear Sculptra Dammed, This is about one thing only "AGENDAS" for profit. The Sanofi scam in 2004, sick using HIV. Now we have the affilate Dermik. Than just find the right pimps, via SALES armed with bogus marketing tools meant to deceive a naive patient, give them to those with MDs next to the term BCPS or Dermatologist. They actually found them.. Find a lawyer / professor who understands systemic diseases now under your skin. A medical license has meaning, so we thought, also for a start the OPMC. I don't think they favor these types of doctors.
