what's everyone using for scar therapy???

i'm 6 wks post op and my scar is healing nicely... flat, just still a bit red/purlple, but thin. i'm massaging 3 times per day with jojoba oil, fresh aloe in the morning. and jojoba oil and mederma at night. thinking about getting the silicone sheets... do these work?? help... don't mind paying (hell, we've already been through the worst right?) -- but wanted to make sure they work anyone.....????

I tried the sheets but they did not work well for me at all.  Also very expensive...

The Palmer's Oil worked best for mine.

Thank you kimmers.. i trust your opinions and thanks for continuing to post. How does your scar look after several months? has it faded?

You are welcome!   My scar looks wonderful and I am so happy with it.  It has faded and continues to do so each month.  It is completely flat and only red in two small areas. 

I will have to post a one year scar picture.  I will do that in the next couple of days.

I sure did.  I had this entire OCD routine..LOL   

I used Mederma for 12 weeks, Bio Oil for 12 weeks and also Palmer's Vitamin E SKin Therapy Oil.  Still use the Palmers every day on my entire body.  That stuff is like magic. 

Three times a day massage in circular motion; with firm pressure.   Smooths that incision right down.

when did you use Mederma (after shower, lunch, night)

Hi Rose,

I used all three products for 12 weeks each (one at a time).  2-3 times a day with firm circular massage on all scars areas.  And don't forget the belly button.  

They do not rub off at all.   I started with the Palmer's Oil at 2 weeks post op.  My incision was totally closed at that point though.   I still to this day use the oils after every shower and love them.  My incision is completely flat and looks beautiful.

I received Mederma and Bio Oil samples at a GYN conference a few months back. My co-worker pushed me to get them and I am so glad I did. I actually have 2 full bottles of each and hopefully that will be enough. If my surgeon recommends something in particular I might try it otherwise I'm sticking with what I have.

Question - won't the mederma rub off when you put your clothes over it?

Hi, I haven't started any scar therapy. My PS said we will talk about that at 6 weeks Post Op. His assistant suggested the silicon sheets at one of my visits. So I got the Oleeva ones, because it comes in the shape of the TT incision, and the belly button one too. I am going to bring them with me for my 6 week post op visit. I also bought maderma and have been using it on my arm :) I have a little scar there. Maderma has to be used 3x a day. It's hard to remember that middle of the day application. I am a little hesistant on the Vitamin E, my PS says not to use, new research said it doesn't work,etc..some other TTers on the website has said the same, so I will pass. Plus, I found a person who had a TT with my PS in the beginning of the year, and she said she didn't use anything and her scar is beautiful....

I've heard great review about the Bio Oil. So will invest in that. I am trying ScarZone for the daily applications

Hi there, The Silicone sheets and scarfix silicone gel is working wonders for my scar.

good question. I think you take them off and reuse them and you can reuse them for a few weeks??

Hi again, In the evenings I sleep with the silicone sheet on,
During the day I rub the gel onto my scar, So the entire day I have either the sheet or the gel.
I wait for the gel to dry,before putting on my clothes. Standing in front of the fan dries it quick.

My PS said to to NOTHING to scar at this point. I am almost two weeks post op. I still have a small ridge over the incision. It's nothing like it was. He said to keep the area dry, that's it. I go back in four weeks. Maybe he will tell me to start using something then. This PD did my implants ten years ago. I went back to him for full TT and breast lift. The breast lift I really needed back then but was not ready to do so. I will post what he suggest regarding scar after I see him next. I'm not buying anything until then. Though It's hard to stalk up on all kinds of things right now!

Im my humble opinion - it's too early for scar therapy after 2 weeks. I didn't scar therapy until wounds were healed and tape was removed. About 6 weeks. Don't mess around with healing. Scar therapy is after everything is closed and sealed.

Just in my research, and different things may have worked for some, I saw not so good reviews for mederma or Vitamin E oil. I went with the better reviews and bought Scar FX but because my scar isn't raised, returned it. I also got the silicone strip and it seems to have done a decent job. I kind of believe time will and nature will heal accordingly but the silicone does have mild pressure, mimics skin and keeps the area from drying out and being rubbed. Due to the crappy placement/shape of my scar it's hard to keep the strip from bunching from on the ends when I don't have some sort of tight short/compression garment on. I'm 4 months out currently and wearing the garment now isn't needed plus its mid-August in Georgia. I say ask your PS and he/she will recommend something. Just don't buy it from them as the markup is high. The scar FX I bought they sold for aroubd $60 but I got on Ebay brand new for less than $20.

As soon as I'm healed I'll be getting laser treatments. I get them for free because I work at a laser center, I do laser tattoo removal. So I'm lucky. If you can afford it, laser resurfacing really works. It usually takes about 6 treatments.

I'm using Dr. Blaine's scar care treament it includes the silicone sheets and vitamin E oil. I also use the Palmer's Skin Therapy oil. Been working good so far.
