Running/Exercise After Rhinoplasty?

I know this question has been asked a bunch of times, but I'm wondering if anyone can share their experiences... I'm wondering how soon after surgery I can get back to my running routine. I usually run 4 miles per day, and I know I will not be able to wait more than 3 weeks to start exercise after my surgery, which is the minimum amount of time my doctor is recommending. But I'm terrified of bringing on excess swelling. How long did you wait?? And did it create noticeable extra swelling? What if I run/exercise with my nose taped??

I'm going to preface with saying I'm a ballet dancer and I had a 2 1/2 week break between shows in which I had my surgery. My doctor said 3 weeks before I could resume my usual routine. In the second week I started doing light exercise, pilates and I would take a ballet class, but easy. Pilates was 100% okay. In ballet, I felt fine until I had to turn or jump... in fact any impact on the ground was uncomfortable. No pain, just uncomfortable, and the swelling wasn't significant. By the time I went back to work (week 3), it was as if nothing had happened. Zero discomfort. And btw, not one person noticed what was different (I did get a couple quizzical looks and "something is different... hair?" but no one has pinpointed it).

Wow that's great! I'm happy to hear you were able to return at week 3 without any pain or discomfort! My doctor told me to wait 3 weeks until I started running again but I was feeling a little skeptical. Glad to hear your experience confirms the doctor's recommendation! I go back to work on Monday and I'm feeling a bit easy about the reactions I'll get so thanks for that reassurance as well. Hope you're feeling good and I can't wait to see your next update :-)

Every doctor i consulted with told me to wait at least 6 weeks. I waited 8 weeks. Exercise is unpleasant due to the numb, cold, tingling feeling you will get in the tip. The swelling goes back down after a few hours but it is the discomfort that will probably bother you.

Im also wondering how much time will be enough to go to the gym.. Im sure that when the time comes and the three weeks have gone by.. Im sure I´ll still be very nervous on something happening to my nose while lifting even a month after my surgery haha

Hey Daniel, I saw your question about Accutane and rhinoplasty. I was taking accutane and asked my dermatologist for a recommendation for a rhinoplasty surgeon last year. He said that I MUST wait 1 full year before I had surgery. I'm sure that waiting a year is on the conservative side, but why chance it? It will be 1 year since my last dose of accutane on November 1st. I'm having rhinoplasty November 12th. There's already a risk of complication with any surgery, I think its better to remove any unnecessary risk from the equation.
