Nose tip upturned after rhinoplasty

Nose tip upturned after rhinoplasty

I had rhinoplasty last week. The cast was removed today. My nose is so upturned I don't know if I look more like Miss Piggy, Michael Jackson, or my dog, but my doc insists this is normal and will go down. I didn't ask for it to be upturned at all.

I'm so depressed I can't even function. Even my husband started crying when he saw it. I was very attractive before. Any chance this nose will turn out okay? If not, how soon can I fix it and what should I do?

has your nose fallen since this post? I am having the same issue. I think we are a few days apart on our surgeries. I had mine last Monday and I am so horrified by the upturned tip.

I had a rhynoplasty last year, like your my nose looks upturned, i´m having a revision rhynoplasty next week. My new doctor said it was because of an over resection of the dorsum. I whis never took the decision of changing my natural nose, this year has been a real nigthmare. Whis me good luck.
Waiting4nose2relax 12 Dec 2011
@look123- good luck! Please let me know how it goes and how long it takes for you to heal.

HI it is one week from my revision rhinoplasty. My nose was upturned and saddle from my prior rhinoplasty one year ago ( a nigthmare year). Today my doctor removed the splint and i´m really happy because my nose is better, I hugged my doctor and I almost cry, before he removed I was so nervous, literally he said "no one has been dissatisfied with my work" I said "I hope not to be the first one". So I know God listened my everyday prayers. Now my nose still swollen, but I´m really happy.
@Waiting4nose2relax thanks for your wish me good luck.

hi mrs pugnose my daughter looked just like you after her rhinoplasty and the doctor also said that for sure it will go down. he's a very well established doctor here who has had over 30 years experience so he knows what he's talking about. just be patient even thought i know now its the hardest thing and after some time you and your husband might love your nose.
MrsPugNose 7 Mar 2010
Hi Oreo1, Thanks so much for your comment. That really gives me a shred of hope that it might get better. It has now been about six weeks and I still haven't seen any improvement. I'm wondering how long ago your daughter got her rhinoplasty and if it has gone down at all since then? And oh my gosh, my husband HATES my nose. He goes on about it pretty much all the time. I'm devastated and I can't imagine how I'll get through the next six months to a year until I can get it fixed. Also, apparently, an over-shortened, over-rotated nose is EXTREMELY hard to fix. I guess there are only a few doctors in the country who are even qualified to fix it. I'm dreading even thinking about how much it's going to cost, and what I'm going to do if I find out it'll be too expensive for us to afford it. It is really a horrible look. I wish there was a way to sue my p.s. and make him pay for the new nose......

Emily321, It's actually now been about six weeks since my surgery and my nose still looks pretty much exactly the same. Keep me posted and let me know if yours drops. I hate to say it, but from what I understand, the nose doesn't really change that much after the first week. I will be really happy to hear if yours does drop down!
Emily321 3 Apr 2010
It's been 7 weeks now and still hard to tell, but it really hasn't gone down enough for me to be okay with it. I'm counting down until I can get it fixed. It has gone down maybe 30% (according to my mother). I'm still looking into revision but also still praying it will change for the better even if it takes months. I'm afraid to risk it and make it worse but at the same time, I don't want to keep it this way for sure. just hideous. Definitely not going to use same PS as before. Clearly his ears are plugged full of something b/c he didn't listen when I said I was okay with that part of my nose before :(

Hi Emily, I had my surgery on January 28th, so it has been quite a while for me. I've looked into getting a revision surgery but have been completely shocked by how expensive it is. It is apparently extremely hard and complicated to lengthen and de-rotate a nose, and only a few surgeone are skilled enough to do it properly. I don't know if you have this problem, but because of the overrotation, my nose was a "ski jump" which looked HORRIBLE. However, I did find an immediate solution: I went to a different plastic surgeon, and told a "white lie" that my surgery was a year ago, and had him inject restylane into the curved part to make it straight. It looks 75% better, which is really good enough for me for a little while. DO NOT get Radiesse injected, because you won't be able to get another surgery for another 1-3 years, and it can screw up the resuls even after that. Restylane does not touch the bone, it just plumps up the skin, and is gone in 6 months so there's no risk. I'm still not okay with my nose, and know that it's not going to go down any further. My PS said he will fix it for free, and I am so tempted because I'm BROKE, but I really don't trust him after he screwed it up so badly.

hi everyone...who is this dr you guys are talking about?? i just had a rhinoplasty 4 days ago and i think im having the same exact problem!!! my dr was in dallas...dr gunter...hes supposed to be one of the best but maybe im just panicking and its still soon after surgery...im soooo sorry you guys to hear of your problems, how devastating :(
MrsPugNose 23 Apr 2010
Hi, I don't want to post my doctor's name, but I am in Hawaii, so it was definitely a different doctor. You might be one of the lucky ones whose nose will go down--I have read of that happening to several people, so don't panic yet :-) If it doesn't go down, just do what I did and inject restylane into it so that it won't look so overdone and fake until you can get the next surgery. It really makes it look 100% better. Also, if you do end up getting it surgically corrected, go to doctor Roland Daniel or possibly Dr Richard Clark (if you like the look of his short nose revisions, which I do). Feel free to send me a pm or post another comment if you have any other questions.......I spend pretty much all of my time researching this :-)
lelahjo 23 Apr 2010

Hello Mrs PugNose, I am just wondering if your nose has improved at all after you had your surgery? I too am feeling exactly the same as you. I had a rhinoplasty at the beginning of April and my nose is looking very similar to yours. Everyone keeps on saying to me to wait as there will still be swelling, I just feel that it hasn't changed over the past month though. Am feeling so depressed and just don't know what to do. I just feel that it is not flattering atall. I hope you can give me some advice. I have also developed what I think seems to be a bone callous on the side of the bridge of my nose (small hard bump), this makes things even worse than what they already are! I really just dont know what to do. My surgeon has said to massage it firmly from the top of the bridge down to the tip but I just don't see any improvement whatsoever, just think my nose is stuck like this!
MrsPugNose 17 May 2010
Hi there, I hope I'm not upsetting anybody, but my nose didn't really go down at all after that picture was taken (it has now been about five months). However, there IS HOPE. I posted above that I got some Restylane injected into my nose and that it was much better.....and that you shouldn't inject Radiesse because it's too permanent. Well unfortunately, the Restylane only lasted for about a month for me, and the PS just couldn't get it precise enough for my liking......and so I have injected some Radiesse into it because I am soooo desperate to look normal. The Radiesse is staying put and lasting. I'm getting some more put into it today and will post some pictures so you can see the DRAMATIC difference. While my first pick would've been to wait for another surgery, I really don't have $12,000 laying around and I am so wary about what can go wrong. Apparently, there is a significant risk when they operate to drop the tip that it will not drop at all, and instead turn up even MORE. I just am not at an emotional level yet that I think I could handle my nose looking worse that it already does. Radiesse can't do anything major, but it can make my nose look normal again, with very little risk. So anyway, that's my advice to you if yours doesn't drop! Hopefully it will, though :-)
cmp46 18 May 2010
Hi, Please post your photos after your injection. I've met a ps recently who uses some kind of silicone 1000 to inject the nose to make it look more normal. My only fear of that is that it is permanent and I worry that if I don't like it, I'm stuck with it or that a revision surgery would be made even more difficult. Thanks.
amy780 18 Aug 2010
Have you had it done yet? Im also thinking about the injections.. could you send pictures if possible?
Lizm 12 Dec 2010
I've seen great revision rhinoplasty photos. I will try to find them and send them to you. You migt wnat to consider visiting the doctors who did them. I think it can be fixed. don't let yourself live with a doctor's mistake forever. who was your doctor? please let us know so that we don't make the same mistake if we're in your area. I'm trying to find a doctor now.
can't you sue the doctor and get the money you need for the revision from him??? there must be a way. he should be responsible for what he did.

ugh, it's been seven days now (7/22/10) since my nose surgery and my long elegant nose with a slight knob and slight down turning is now...over-shortened, over-rotated!! blech, i'm so disgusted with myself, everything. i can't believe i did this to myself. my doctor is very good but we just didn't communicate well enough i guess. i mean, his idea of a "slight upturn" -- evidently is not my idea. i look exactly like pug nose. thank you for posting your photo. seriously, a small gnome could ski off my bridge and onto the dinnger table. it makes me want to barf. it's not elegant. i look like a character from Dr. Suesse's Whoville!! i really couldn't believe it when i took the bandage/ splint off... i immediately started to try to push my nose down. what a dumb ass. i'm so embarassed i got this surgery to begin with. i didn't want anyone to notice that i'd gotten some rejuvenation done and now i just look like a character. everyone will say, "Who" are you!! woe is me. thanks so much for posting stuff. i'm not alone. boo. radiesse all the way.

Hi, I am having the same problem as you and i am afraid of having another surgery but I am really considering fillers. Can you please e mail me pictures of the difference fillers restylane has made ? I really want to see so that I can judge if it will help me also. Thanks for sharing.
