Nose tip upturned after rhinoplasty

Nose tip upturned after rhinoplasty

I had rhinoplasty last week. The cast was removed today. My nose is so upturned I don't know if I look more like Miss Piggy, Michael Jackson, or my dog, but my doc insists this is normal and will go down. I didn't ask for it to be upturned at all.

I'm so depressed I can't even function. Even my husband started crying when he saw it. I was very attractive before. Any chance this nose will turn out okay? If not, how soon can I fix it and what should I do?

Hi - I know it has been a while since you posted. I am wondering what the outcome was from your experience? My cast is coming off today and I'm a little concerned about the appearance of my nostrils. I'm hoping the issue will resolve itself after the cast is removed and swelling of the columella reduces.

hi, i have a similar problem with the upturned tip. the nasolabial angle has gone very obtuse after open revision because the doctor uses a columellar strut to maintain tip projection. i'd do anything to get that strut out and have my normal tip projection. did your tip go down after 6 weeks? iam 4 weeks post-op and my tip has dropped probably 2mm. i want it to drop another 3 mm for me to not be this sad! :(

who is the doctor????? I had 3 rhinoplasties, first one I had a ball on the tip, the second one the dr should have his license revoked, because I had a giant bump on one side and I was as sick as could be for a month thanks to Dr. Zaki Ftaiha, bad, bad surgeon..... finally my saving grace Dr. Julius Newman in Phila. PA, God rest his soul, he fixed my nose and it is a cute as could be, he was referred to as "Dr. Nose" alot of people knew of him. He yelled at me and said why didn't you come to me in the first place and my answer was because you were too expensive, thanks to my mom who paid for him to fix it. It was the easiest surgery, no pain, and great recovery. Wish he was still alive, I would use him for any facial PS

You are so beautiful - I have a naturally upturned nose and worry about it but I looked at the picture at the top and was like, well, that woman is gorgeous. Please don't worry so much about what you look like - you're really beautiful.

I had open rinoplasty 4 weeks ago i also asked to not have a ski lift nose done. .he was to straighten myy nose and file bump and take off very little on the tip because it was hooked(exotic) now it looks like ski lift cartoon. I hope it is only the swelling. The weird thing is i liked it better when i first got cast off it was nice swollen!!. Now the skinnier it gets the more ski lift it looks. Im latina and wanted to keep that exotic look. I hope tip goes down. My dr is one of the best in bevely hills. All i know is i sujest to anyone who wants nose job, just file bump amd straighten it.dontshorten it. DONT GET ANYTHING DONE TO THE TIP!!! now after that u probably will like it and if u want more done still then go back to change tip. WE ALL NEED TO REMEBER this is forever trust me and take ur time. Dont get all chages done in one surgery. I wish i had left the tip alone. I know it cost more but save up then build credit

I am in exactly the same boat, currently 4 weeks since surgery and my tip has dropped possibly a mm or two? I still hate the way I look and am counting down the days until a possible revision or fillers can be used. Everyone says I look "cute" and this is exactly what I didn't want, a roman nose to an elfs nose!! My tip is still ridiculously swollen and sticking out I hope this will go down as the bridge has gone down significantly. Has anyone had a good result from fillers? Are they very expensive? Or is it better to wait 11 months for a revision? Thanks

Its been 9 days since the last post and yesterday was three weeks from surgery. Although it isn't much I would have to say the tip is coming down a little bit. I am minimally encouraged after a difficult week or two. I am far from where I want to be but will take anything I can get. Still not great, but better.

Had my primary closed rhino done 2 weeks ago in NYC. Bump reduced, osteotemies, columella raised, tip refined etc. Everything is pretty good, maybe a little underdone, but my nose tip is definitely up there! Also, the nose tip is projected like pinoccio. My nose / lip angle is probably like 120 degrees. The Dr. is very well regarded and confidently says it will take time to come down. I am self conscious about it to say the least. It has helped me to read that others say it should come down. But waiting is the worst. I'll let you know how it goes.

You should consult for a better doctor than you have the last time for your rhino plasty
surgery. I think it think it takes month for your recovery. I feel sad for you. Next tome be sure for the doctor that will handle your operation.

HI it is one week from my revision rhinoplasty. My nose was upturned and saddle from my prior rhinoplasty one year ago ( a nigthmare year). Today my doctor removed the splint and i´m really happy because my nose is better, I hugged my doctor and I almost cry, before he removed I was so nervous, literally he said "no one has been dissatisfied with my work" I said "I hope not to be the first one". So I know God listened my everyday prayers. Now my nose still swollen, but I´m really happy.
@Waiting4nose2relax thanks for your wish me good luck.

Hi! Things are improving on my end as I heal, happy to report. The tip of my nose is relaxing so that it is not as rotated upward. However, I still have asymmetrical nostrils and when I take a big bite of food or laugh hard, my nose hurts. I think this means that I am still healing and just need to be patient. @stillhateit - you should at this point consider revision surgery. Life is too short to be so unhappy about the way you look if it is impacting your confidence and undermining your outlook. Take care and good luck.

I still hate my nose 2 and a half years later. Is there any way to possibly fix this without doing the surgery again? I went in because I didn't have a bridge and you could see my brain since my nostrils were just so in your face. Now I literally look like Michael Jackson. I'm even crying writing this. Nobody admits it to my face but people talk crap about me all the time and call me Michael Jackson. Even little kids will look at me and tell their parents that I look like Michael Jackson. This is actually the first day in the 2.5 years I've broken down. It's just built up after all these years and I can't take it anymore. If someone knows anyone that can help, pls refer them. I'm completely depressed about this.

According to what my doctor said, the symmetry of nose while swollen is reducing may be affected, since few places, even in different sides, were less injured during surgery. He says in most of cases its pretty normal to see the nose healing at a different simmetry.
I also see a difference between my nostrils (rhinoplasty was 60 days ago), which is being apparently reduced by the time

By the rhinoplasty we made a change which will only be avaliable to see the real results in about 1 year, so dont be toooo much worried about these things that are part of the healing process. Otherwise, ask your doctor, they have the skill to make we confortable most of times with their support.

regards

Hi all. I had minor rhino (2 hr procedure) about 20 days ago. My only request was to narrow the width. Unfortunately my nose seems a little shorter and the tip is rotated upward. Initially, I looked like Miss Piggy right after the procedure, but I knew it was due to the swelling. To top it off, I had a sinus infection. So I was feeling REAL good. Anyhow, good news is the swelling has gone down so my nose tip is straighter. I am missing my old nose, however- it was more exotic looking, even though it was wider than I would have liked. Right now, the issue I am dealing with is symmetry of the nostrils. They are not completely even. Sigh- just regretting that I had to mess with what God and my lovely parents gave me. I hope this story ends well!

Hello everyone. I just passed by the same situation as you. Ive got a closed rhinoplasty at october 8. When i took the splint off, my nose was completely upturned. As the swelling started to heal, the tip dropped a lot, and it will still change and drop over the time. At Begining it may be really scaring and frustrating, but believe me, it mostly of times is gonna work, just give you patience for your bodys healing period. Anyway the feeling when you look at mirror and think "OMG WTH, its everything i didnt ask for!" is completely normal. And, those techniques which uses the upturn tip are most of times more effective at final results, trust ur surgeon.

Hi Mabs - I am also in the same situation, I just got my cast off and my nose was far more upturned than I expected. Can you tell me how long it took before your tip started to drop? Also, are you happy with your nose now? Thanks!
Mabs 12 Nov 2011
Its all about your heal recovery time, which in every person works different according to the bio system.
It also depends if the changes you have made are too huge. In my case it was just a refinement of my natural nose, but i am sure that youll reach the final results the same way.
to help your healing period, you should avoid warm places/water/food (high temperatures may increase edema)specially in the first month.

My surgery was 35 days ago, anyway its recovering pretty fast since 3rd week. i also ive passed by 5 sessions of draining procedures on my face right after 14 days of surgery, when i started to see my tip dropping a bit after few days of each turn.

all i say is that its freaking scary when you look at your face on the mirror when your nose is upturned and swollen, but be patient and believe: your face is going to be great in few time, including your nose. Even if it takes few months, its gonna be for the rest of your life and you aint repent, its gonna worth.

Most of cases it takes around 3 months untill you really start liking/seeing the results.

regards :)
