I am scheduled to have a tt and lipo in the Dominican Republic on May 11. I was wondering if anyone has traveled abroad to have plastic surgery and if so what was their experience.

Hi, Des Myself and members of my family have traveled abroad to have aesthetic surgery done. While we all have had successful outcomes, here are a few recommendations. 1. Any dr. at home or abroad should be referred by someone you know. This does not guarantee anything but always made me feel better. Also, do your research- look him/her up see what people have said. 2. Check and make sure they are board certified in their specialty. Even here in the states this is a problem. All countries have a medical board that lists the doctor, his credentials and his specialty. That way you do not get an OB who does tummy tucks! He could be a good dr that gets great results but, its just NOT what he dedicated 10 years of studying to do. 3. Lastly, listen to the Dr. Often we hear what we want to, pretending that we will be a whole new person. If they say you need to stay 2 weeks for post op, do it! Hope this helps! Amanda

Hi there,

I was passing through this forum and read a lot of comments regarding cheap plastic surgery. I work for a company who deals with people who work in the plastic surgery industry and I would like to post my point of view. I will not disclose my name or my company’s name to avoid a discussion or blatant promotional plugs. I would like to understand how a company can charge so little for plastic surgery? Medicine, anesthesia, hospital stay, and surgeons are not cheap. I do not understand this. I believe that this company has a good promotional team on the web and social networks because I see their name in every forum and website I read regarding plastic surgery. It seems as though their patients work for them. I would really like to understand how reliable and factual they are. Thank you.

Hey there! Travelling abroad for medical procedures is an excellent option you should consider. Sometimes when patients are denied treatment in the US, have no insurance, too costly, many consider receiving treatment abroad. South Korea is one country you should consider. I received plastic surgery there and am really satisifed. I was so happy with the experience, I'm helping people go abroad like me. Email me for more questions.

I went to Santa Cruz Bolivia to have breast implants and rhinoplasty and I am very happy with my results, I have pictures if you want to see them!
My surgeon was Dr.Cossio, I found him because in fact I went with a medical tourism organization named Makeover travel.
I chose them for affordability and also because my friend Rebeca from Argentina went there before me and she was very happy with her results, she told me that everybody were lovely there, well not everything can be perfect, perfect but most of all was good so she said that if I had to travel abroad Santa Cruz was the country, well I think each one talk by their own experience, my experience was also good and I have nothing to complain, it is true , Santa Cruz is not USA but I don’t expect to travel abroad in cheapest country and try to compare it with mine because if USA is expensive is for a reason, the economy the main reason to be honest, so… I guess you need to be open, you need to research and try to find not just the good price also the place that offer you safety because plastic surgery is not a joke, is something that can affect your life forever!

Hi
I went alone,I wanted to take my sister with me but she had to work so I had to go alone but I didn’t feel bad because I didn’t have a lot of pain so I went to visit several places and I met a lot of nice people so it was a nice experience for me, the only part that was a little difficult was when I wanted to talk with the taxi drivers and with some people that didn’t understand English, so I decided to buy a dictionary because my Spanish is not perfect, in fact is pretty bad, other than that everything was ok.

No, I knew I had to pay the medicine, an additional exam before the surgery, the bra and that’s it.

Medicine is not expensive in Santa Cruz, at least not like in US, so I bought my treatment for the scars there and some other medicine I am taking for the stress;my medicine for the stress cost half of the price than in US can you imagine?

Breakfast is included so I had to pay for my other meals and for personal transportation .

Taxis are very cheap like $1.5 dollars to go anywhere in the city and I paid in average $8 per meal.

I stayed in Bolivia 10 days and I didn’t have a lot of pain, in fact I was feeling good,I was swollen, the surgeon told me I could see my results in 6 months.
I love how I look now, I think that everything worth it, what do you think?Do you like my nose?
I feel like a new person, I never imagined I could feel so good, so happy with myself, I suffered a lot before because I felt really ugly, I don’t know if many people feel the way I felt before but I hope that none can feel this horrible feeling ever in their lives!

Hi Jenny,
I love your nose and a give you credit for having the guts to go to Bolivia. I,m in the same shoes, exept i need to do tummy tuck and brest lift. I would need a little more information. How much money you spend extra, where you afraid, what alse i need? Please email me back or call me at 267-614-8640 You seemd very sincerd. Thank you Gabriela

Hi Gaby!Nice to meet you!
I am happy to know that you are going to Bolivia because I know that you will be in very good hands, I know there are many other countries to go to have cosmetic surgery but in my experience Bolivia is an excellent place, not just because of the price, that is far the best I think, but also because is important to know who you are trusting your life and your appearance.
I don’t really know how is the recovery period of the tummy tuck, I think that is longer and you need to stay many days recovering at the hotel, so make sure to take a good book to read because sometimes watching tv is kind of boring, at least for me.
Well I guess you will live a big transformation, are you ready for that? I am sure you will be completely happy afterwards because is a big change, be ready for all the admirers you will have in the future!
You asked me about money, I guess everything depends on the kind of person you are and what you like, if you are going shopping etc.
Bolivia is not a expensive country, I spent like $15-$20 a day eating in some of the best restaurants, the meals they give you for $10 are just amazing! if it a pizza is a very big pizza like for 3 people, if its a stake is a big stake with fries, salad and rice, everything is big!
Transportation is really cheap, $2 dollars to go anywhere in the city.
You need to pay your own medication, garments and other exam, you need to ask the price of it now, I didn’t need a garment but they mentioned to me that the price of the garments are between $100 and $150 I think, the exam $40 or $50 I don’t remember and the Medication something like $80 but depends on what the surgeon prescribe you and the kind of surgery you are having.
If you are an American citizen you will need a VISA but you can buy it at the airport.
You will also need yellow fever vaccination but you can have it done at any clinic, make sure to do it with time so you won’t be in a hurry at the last moment!
Then you asked me if I was afraid, well what can I say, I think I was a little afraid of everything, of the country, of the experience, of the surgery but once I was there everything changed because the people that were looking after me were very nice, I loved my surgeon, my assistant and the clinic was nice, of course is not like a clinic in our country but is a nice clinic.
When you go abroad you must know that everything is going to be different that in your country, everything! but you will have a nice experience if you don’t compare everything and you just enjoy your experience.
It’s a place that I can recommend, that I know that is not dangerous at all, is very safe and is a place I know that has a very good quality in cosmetic surgery, I always talk based in my own experience, I am very happy as you can see, I think I met the right people and I went in the right moment and I am glad of it.
If you have more questions let me know it ok!
Good luck and say hello Dr.Cossio for me

Jenny40 I'm very excited for you and your nose. I too have received an evaluation from Dr. Cossio for breast enlargement and rhino. I've been trying to schedule airfare. But it is so very expensive. I'm wanting to go at the end of May and return mid June. I'm interested as to when you went and how much it cost you. So far tickets are averaging about $1200 to $1380. Please contact me, thanks and congratulations!
Chrissy San Francisco (3 posts) 29 Jan 2011
hey Jenny, I am thinking of traveling to bolivia as well for rhino. You live in sacramento I am guessing. Would you like to keep in touch and possibly go together. Maybe the going togethe rmight not work as I am planning to go earlier. I am very scared about this whole process. For one thing I dont know if they will do a good job and going to a new country bymyself is more than intimidating.
Sacramento4416 (5 posts) 29 Jan 2011
When do you plan to go? I might be excited but not anxious. When you get there they will give you a tour of the facility and you will have a consult with the doctor. You will also meet recent postop patients and get their opinion
