Repeat Breast Reduction

Hello! I just found this site. I'm scheduled for a repeat breast reduction on April 20th. My first reduction was my freshman year of high school, in 1989. It was a fantastic decision at the time! With 23 years, three pregnancies, three (mostly) breastfed babies and some weight gain, I'm sitting at a 38 DDD/G. A few weeks ago, I received a call that my PS had a cancellation and could see me the following week, instead of my original appointment date 6 months out. His office submitted it to insurance and the *very next day* I received the approval letter in the mail. They must have processed it immediately and put it the in mail that day (it's local, so 1 day delivery). Anyway, I'm nervous about having a repeat reduction. My PS is the best in the area, and he said that there is a risk of compromising the blood supply to the nipple, since pedicle has already been done and my old PS likely doesn't have the records. According to him, worst case scenario if blood supply is compromised, he does a reconstruction.  (He didn't say it exactly like that... but that's my summary.)  He didn't seem to think that the risk was great, but of course it is a possibility. I'm hoping my old PS (out of state from where I live now) has the records, but it's unlikely. If anyone has been through a repeat reduction, (I think - LOL) I would like to hear your story / advice.

Prada - The surgery went really well! It appears that I have no blood supply issues... woo hoo!!!! It's 2 days post-op and I'm allowed to remove my bandages today, but I'm chicken and haven't yet done it. I did peek and both nipples have great coloring. If you have any questions, let me know.

Would love to know if all went OK as I am about to have my second surgery 37 years after the first.

Yes, the surgery was a great success! I love the results! Originally, I was a 36C after surgery. But my smaller chest, along with weight loss, allowed me to begin running. In all, I've lost 80 pounds (had surgery about half way through) and have shrunk down to a 34A. The shape is phenomenal though and while small, my chest isn't too small. I'm so glad that I did the repeat reduction, though it was a frightening decision at the time. Good luck with your repeat reduction!!!!

Hi! I had a reduction in 1997.It was covered by insurance. 2 kids and fifty pounds later I am a 38DD. Am even more uncomfortable this time around (dents in shoulders, back pain...) My insurance has a clause-no breast reductions covered! Have consulted with the PS who did it the first time ($12,500.00) and another PS ($10,000.00). The PS who did the surgery in 97 said they don't keep records after 10 years. He also said pretty much the same thing about the pedicles. as well, he didn't seem real concerned. I can see why you are nervous. At the same time I wish I was in your shoes-cause I don't and probably never will have the money to pay for it myself! Good luck with your surgery. Would love to hear about your results...
