Is pain normal 6 weeks post op?

By Lovemykiddos on 18 Aug 2011

Hi all, I'm new here but so glad i found this site. My full tummy tuck was six weeks ago.  Altho there is much improvement compared to the first few weeks, I'm surprised by the on-going pain that remains.  Coughing or sneezing causes enough pain to stop me in my tracks.  Anyone else experience this?  My C Section recoveries were so easy and I was able to lift my kids after just 6 weeks.  Based on how I currently feel, I'm nervous that I still won't be ready to lift my little ones at 8 weeks post-op!   Can anyone relate?   Thanks!

Oh yes!!  This is all normal.  You will be sore for a few more weeks.  It does improve each week but really takes some time.  I could not sneeze or cough without pain for 4 months.  There is nothing wrong it's just all part of the recovery.

You will find that you are able to do more and more each week.  Listen to your body and if something hurts stop and modify the move.  Baby steps:)

You will be ready for the kids at 8 weeks.  Yes it will still hurt but you will be able to care for them.

Can definitely relate. Am also 6 weeks post op today, and some things still hurt, like laughing, coughing and sneezing...it feels tight and then gradually loosens..if that makes any sense. Just did my first workout today....30 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of weights...felt good! A bit of swelling, so I am wearing my binder today, but still trying to ween off, so I am wearing it in the house, but not when I am out.

How about you lovemykiddos? I have a little one and 2 medium sized ones. Felt SO great to pick my little one up this morning...hadn't done so in 6 weeks...

I'm in my 8th week and still have plenty of issues. Soreness overall most days and very stiff & sore on sides & back first thing in the morning. We are all different. I marvel at those who seem almost back to normal in just a few weeks. I have a wound issue too though so perhaps that is causing some of this too.

I am 8 weeks today and wake up every morning with back aches and some stomach pains. I am 43 and had a full TT with muscle repair. I only wear my compression garment when exercising or doing a lot of work around the house. It helps ease the pain and pressure I get just above my navel. Otherwise I wear my compression under shirts which help hold my stomach in and also reminds me to suck it in.

I am 57 and almost 6 weeks post bl/tt and wear my compression garment to bed to help with turning etc during sleep. I am walking slowly on the treadmill at 2.5 mph for 30 minutes daily to try to build my strength back. Sometimes I get shooting pain and stiffness and that is my clue to sit down for a break for a few minutes! Actually, my bl is bothering me more than the tt. This website is such a comfort to me!!

Hi there I am two weeks post op and am so glad to hear this is common. Sneezing and coughing is a real pain, everyone in the house knows to get away if this happens. I found it helpful to use a pillow and splint myself if this happened. If no pillow was available I just use my hands and arms across my abdomen. Takes a little bit of the pressure off the abdomen. So happy I found this website!
