open or closed sutures?

My PS wants to close the incisions for my liposuction (hips, circ. thighs, & knees). I am concerned about excess swelling. Any insight? Also, I mentioned lymphatic massage and he suggested Velashape. Has anyone done that post lipo? Thanks for your help!!!
I talked to my PS the other day about that and he said that he has to stitch it up completely, otherwise I will have scars. He sad you will have plenty of drainage, so his opinion was it doesn't matter if it's stitched up completely, it will still go through its course.
