Hi Everyone, I'm a 35 y/o female, 5'3" and 210 pounds. I was recently approved by a barartic surgeon as a great candidate for the sleeve procedure. I have a surgery date of October 21 st. Since my insurance doesn't cover any diet centers, or nutritionist, they also don't cover any of the three weight loss procedures, so I'm self pay for this surgery. This afternoon, I met with my primary care doctor for a physical, EKG, blood work, chest x-Ray and an overall clearance for surgery. My doctor was mortified I was considering this procedure, and upset I was approved. He doesn't believe in the surgery, he doesn't think anyone should have it because it's " the easy" way out. He also dosen't believe in my PCOS diagnosis and won't continue to write my Metformin prescription for treatment. He also dosen't believe in metabolic disorders. I just relocated to a new state for work and I have terrible insurance. He is the only one in my area who accepts my insurance so I can't switch doctors in order to get all the lab work done for the procedure. Has anyone else encountered similar reactions from their primary doctors? And if so, how did you work through it??Thank you for any assistance.
