What is my consultant looking for?

By revvix on 23 May 2012

Hello all   I saw a consultant today and after he had examined me, he said that I had capsular contracture. So I was sent for a mammogram, and he said the results are inconclusive so he is now sending me for an MRI scan to check that he isn't missing anything. I am a bit worried now, what could he be missing? possibly a rupture (would a mammogram suggest a rupture?)   To be honest I just want explant surgery, I was referred on the NHS to a consultant for this purpose -  I suppose I am a bit scared that the consultant will say after the MRI, that I just have to live with the pain and refuse to explant.

I agree with Angie about calling and asking him, but it could be that he wants to see the 'situation' before, because if they have ruptured they may be a little more difficult to remove (for example if they are no longer in one piece) so he may just want to be prepared and also, if you DO have a rupture, he might decide to remove the capsule as well (this is scar tissue surrounding the implant) and this means the procedure is a bit longer.

Dont worry, it will be fine, there's no way you can be forced to keep them in and I'm sure that isnt his intention, he just wants to see whats going on in there.

Maybe you could call your consultant back and ask if he suspects anything or what he is concerned about. It might give you peace of mind. You can always find someone to remove your implants...hang in there and keep us posted.
