Local anesthesia for a tummy tuck

By Osiris on 16 Apr 2010

Hi I'm intersested in having a tummy tuch. I know there is a bit of skin to be removed and I would be advised to go under. I've read what the doctors had to say about it, but my insistence is that if a c-section, I've had 3 of them, can be done with an epidural, and the surgeon is working in the same area, with the same muscles, and cutting the uterus open why are all the surgeons so against performing a tummy tuck with an epidural?? Here it would mostly be skin, no other major organs involved!!

It can be performed with an epidural, but many surgeons feel this isn't as safe and that toxic levels of anesthesia would have to be administered through the spinal to get you numb enough for long enough. Tummy tucks are often longer procedures than c-sections, depending on what's involved.
