I am much older than most of you young women but have wanted to have this surgery for many years but was unable to. I finally made up my mind to do it and saw a PS 2 weeks ago. He agreed that it would probably help the pain I have had for so long and that I was certainly a candidate. I have many health problems and was forced to retire early last year after 30 years as an RN.
I have has some most welcome responses to my questions on line and just wanted to let anyone else out there who may have the same ones, that my BCBS of Florida took only 2 weeks to approve the surgery. I have not scheduled it as yet as I have to see my other docs and have another PET scan on Friday.My oncologist wants me to see his acupuncturist for other pain issues I have had for a long time,so I will see what he can do.I am also on treatment for Non Hodgkin s Lymphoma every 8 weeks so will have to wedge the surgery in sometime when I can get all of my ducks in a row. I just recieved my Approval this morning and I called the PS already and have my date. How quickly this has moved. Just keep your head up and call your PS and have them keep sending in the referral once every couple of days. I don't know how they do it there. But our insurance Tricare took about 2 weeks but that is because of the PS assistant kept sending it in.

Once again, thanks Jessica.I really appreciate all of your encouraging comments.I am hanging in but the pain is sometimes unbearable in my neck and shoulders. Hopefully it will be soon.They did not tell me to call them so haven't.I am waiting as patiently as possible. I believe I am significantly older than most of the posters and am in poor health as well. I would not have elected to have this surgery if not for the great pain. Thanks again and I will keep you posted. Hopefully I will hear something soon.

I called them at least once a week, that's what they told me to do. It took them a week to send it off and three weeks from that point.Keep your head up.

Hi, story of my life,Jessica. Hurry up and wait.Did u wait the full three weeks before calling your PS?

The minute you start getting frustrated, then they will call and give you the approval. I called my PS office on Tuesday afternoon to see if they heard anything and low and behold BCBS calls that evening to approve it. Too funny, my PS office was like wow, because they were even like it's been a minute since they sent the paperwork to them. Good luck.

BCBS of Iowa took about three weeks as well for me

I have BCBS of Texas and it took them about three weeks to approve my surgery.
