By louisejef on 10 Jan 2012

Hi All, Im booked to have rhinoplastry on 30th March 2012 with Dr Van Canneyt at the Elyzea clinic Belgium, Has anyone had him? i would really appreciate some feedback! I just want the hump on my nose taken away and left straight and possibly my nose brought in a tad to stop it looking to long,( see pic) Im a bit scared now after reading other peoples stories who have been left with an upturned nose (by diffrent surgeons) x

Hi there and welcome to RealSelf! I haven't heard of the doctor you mention, but then, I'm much more familiar with doctors in the US. Make sure he specializes in rhinoplasty and that you communicate to him that you do not want your tip brought up. You also might want to discuss whether or not you want a "scooped" nose or left straight. That's one thing I did not clarify with my PS and wish I had.

Good luck and please consider starting your story in RealSelf's rhinoplasty review community. (Click on Write a Review). Here you can upload photos and video if you'd like, post updates, and get some good support from others! Hope to see you there soon!

Louise, I had lipo with Dr Van Canneyt last year and the results are uneven and lumpy. There is also visible scar tissue across my lower belly. I had rhinoplasty years ago in the US and my experience was vastly different and I have been so happy with my nose ever since. I would not recommend Dr Van Canneyt.

Hi thanks for yOur feedback, thi is the only negative thing I've heard about dr v canneyt. Sorry about your bad experience but I do believe that there o a risk of something going wrong with any surgeon no matter how good they are! I'm still booked with dr van canneyt for march and will hve to deal with it if something goes wrong. I appreciate your fees back thou

Please check the sofeminine board for others who have had a less than stellar experience. This is a very personal decision and I do wish you all the best.

Hi. I wish you the best of luck. I know that my rhinoplasty changed my life for the better and I can only imagine that you will feel the same. It is so important to have a surgeon that you are comfortable with because I think that cosmetic surgery is such an emotional process. There are other things about the procedure and the attitude of the staff at Dr Van Canneyt's clinic that I haven't mentioned because they are my subjective experience, although other people on other boards have echoed my thoughts. Suffice it to say that Dr Van Canneyt operated on one patient after another from early in the morning until later in the evening and one had a sense of being on a conveyer belt and being moved through as quickly as possible with little individual care and attention. My poor results lead me to believe that the surgery was as careless as the pre and post operative care. I am glad that you have found someone who has great reviews.

Hi oliva, I heard some bad experiences from people about dr van canneyt and the I managed to email about what I was concerned about with my nose and to be honest his emails back didn't seem to answer my questions so that sort of put me off as well. So glad I didn't go ahead with him now! Ive emailed my new surgeon and he is lovely and every one hve said how caring he is and he is very dedicated to his work so in so much more confident, just want it done now!!!!! Xx

I had Rhinoplasty with Dr Van Canneyt last summer over in Brussels. I was initially happy, or happier with the appearance of my nose but it is still not completely straight. I had basically all what you describe you are having. He took out some cartilage to lift a longish nose and filed the hump at my bridge and this was a good result. Wounds recovered quickly (1-2weeks) which is greatly helped by a skilled pair of hands I believe. I want to contact them again to discuss a possible revision though because the angle of my nose from the front has not changed. I don't know what they'll have to say about that. The clinic itself is ultra modern and the staff all seem efficient in their roles. Problem I have is that the consultation and aftercare was with a patient assistant (in Manchester) and never with the surgeon. The only time I met with Dr.Van Canneyt was for 10 minutes before and for two minutes after surgery. Then I walked my merry way back to the hotel! So in my opinion, pre and aftercare is a bit of a joke because I just didn't have the time to connect with the surgeon. Even at the time it all felt a bit inadaquate, but I thought, well I'm here now so no going back... and I had to place all my trust in him from merely a handshake and a briefing. No offence to Sue Dechamps the assistant (who attended my surgery also) she is lovely, but I would prefer to talk to my surgeon about any concerns and not a third party.
I initially wanted to do this in 2006 but I missed my appointment with Dr Oelbrandt. So he has been there some years. I don't recall been given a choice of surgeons curiously this time around.
Everything will be fine, just look after yourself in terms of organising flights/trains, accomodation/routes in advance because the procedure itself was a doddle for me but travelling back post-op was tiring. Late trains/hotel reception altercations etc. You don't need that stress.
Post here and let us know what happened afterwards as there is not a lot of info on them and they are a very large business serving all Europe.

Hi Symon, Ive only just seen this message, Thanks for the feedback. i saw Sue dechamps in london and she did seem very nice and know what she was talking about so thats why i initially booked the appointment i was told Dr Van Canneyt would be my surgeon, since i booked the appointment i was constanley searching for feedback on him on the net but could hardley find anything, so i called the elyzea office and asked if i could have Dr Oelbrandt the lady said he doesnt work there anymore and they only have one surgeon i then asked for info on Dr V Canneyt and she said they dont have any i will have to search myself. It just felt wrong going and knowing nothing about him, so i found an email for Dr Oelbrandt and arranged a consultation with him and felt so much more postive he has all the time in the world for people it seems and i have found loads of positive feedback on him so im all booked for March 29th!!
Have you booked revision work with elyzea? I have started up my own review on here so if you are interestedon how it goes you can see :)
