I just want the hump on my nose taken away and left straight and possibly my nose brought in a tad to stop it looking to long,( see pic) Im a bit scared now after reading other peoples stories who have been left with an upturned nose (by diffrent surgeons) x

I had a full rhinoplasty with Dr Van Canneyt almost 4 weeks ago now, 25 Jan 2013. I only have good things to say about my experience. My original nose wasn't huge, but I wanted it to be generally smaller, with the bump taken out and given a more upturned and shorter profile, and to tip to be thinned out from the front. Being only almost 4 weeks old my new nose looks amazing. I have the profile I had asked for, and the tip is obviously still swollen but I can see it improving almost daily and I have no doubt I will be even more thrilled with my new nose in 6 months. I also had an upper blepheroplasty at the same time, which has also healed well and looks fantastic. I personally had no issue only meeting Dr Van Canneyt before my surgery as my requests were fresh in his mind, would they have been if I had seen him a month or 2 before surgery? I found him to be friendly, confident and professional. Plus my consultation with Sue was very thorough and she obviously knows her stuff. I found the clinic to be very clean, efficient and affordable. If you are a person that needs to be overly fussed or treated 'like a princess' you may be more happy paying a couple more thousand pounds having your surgery elsewhere!

Ha! I don't expect to be overly fussed or treated "like a princess" but regardless of whether the surgery is being performed in the UK or abroad, I still expect a thorough service from the practice performing the procedure. I didn't have an issue with seeing Dr Van Canneyt only 5 minutes before the surgery, although he didn't seem to know exactly what I wanted done to my nose, I had to remind him. Also while I thought Sue was lovely she did change her opinion on why my nose was still uneven several times which caused me to lose confidence in her. Regarding the clinic; yes it's very clean and efficient, I just don't think it's professional to pressure someone into leaving only 20 minutes after they've woken up and when they're still heavily sedated from a procedure. As far as my nose goes, 7 months on it looks a lot better and overall I'm happy and much more confident, but I am upset about the septum being uneven. I feel a full rhinoplasty (what I had initially asked for) would've given me the results I had desired but for some reason Sue dissuaded me from it, assuring me that the same result could be achieved with only a tip plasty. After expressing dissatisfaction at a check up 3 months later she told me that a tip plasty can only "do so much" and that only a full rhinoplasty could give me the results I desired. That really ticked me off! I've had several consultations and all of the doctor's have given Dr Van Canneyt's work a thumbs up, saying that for a tip plasty he did a good job. But they've also told me that I would've needed a full rhinoplasty from the beginning to give me the nose I wanted.

HI everyone, I know this post has been resolved but I thought I'd add my experience with Dr Van Canneyt and Elyzea for future readers.

I had a tip plasty and septoplasty with Dr Van Canneyt on May 12th 2012 and while I'm not 100% happy due to the septum still not being completely straight + it's more swollen on one side, the operation itself was a success and my nose already looks so much better! However as Olivia123 pointed out, the service at Elyzea is a joke. I only saw Dr Canneyt once before the operation for 5 minutes, when he introduced himself and drew two circles on my nose. You definitely get the sense that you're on a conveyor belt, they kept pressing me to leave only 20 minutes after I'd woken up from the op! I ended up being sick in the cab back to the hotel which was not the nicest experience.

After care has been fine. I've seen Sue Dechamps several times for check ups since and she's been nothing but wonderful!

Overall, despite the surgery being a success, my experience with Elyzea has been mostly negative and I wouldn't recommend them. I rushed into surgery with them as I've been wanting my nose done for years and couldn't afford Harley St prices, but part of me wishes that I had at least had a few more consultations first. And I wish I'd heard about Dr Oelbrandt before my surgery too!

Hi Symon, Ive only just seen this message, Thanks for the feedback. i saw Sue dechamps in london and she did seem very nice and know what she was talking about so thats why i initially booked the appointment i was told Dr Van Canneyt would be my surgeon, since i booked the appointment i was constanley searching for feedback on him on the net but could hardley find anything, so i called the elyzea office and asked if i could have Dr Oelbrandt the lady said he doesnt work there anymore and they only have one surgeon i then asked for info on Dr V Canneyt and she said they dont have any i will have to search myself. It just felt wrong going and knowing nothing about him, so i found an email for Dr Oelbrandt and arranged a consultation with him and felt so much more postive he has all the time in the world for people it seems and i have found loads of positive feedback on him so im all booked for March 29th!!
Have you booked revision work with elyzea? I have started up my own review on here so if you are interestedon how it goes you can see :)

Hi oliva, I heard some bad experiences from people about dr van canneyt and the I managed to email about what I was concerned about with my nose and to be honest his emails back didn't seem to answer my questions so that sort of put me off as well. So glad I didn't go ahead with him now! Ive emailed my new surgeon and he is lovely and every one hve said how caring he is and he is very dedicated to his work so in so much more confident, just want it done now!!!!! Xx

I had Rhinoplasty with Dr Van Canneyt last summer over in Brussels. I was initially happy, or happier with the appearance of my nose but it is still not completely straight. I had basically all what you describe you are having. He took out some cartilage to lift a longish nose and filed the hump at my bridge and this was a good result. Wounds recovered quickly (1-2weeks) which is greatly helped by a skilled pair of hands I believe. I want to contact them again to discuss a possible revision though because the angle of my nose from the front has not changed. I don't know what they'll have to say about that. The clinic itself is ultra modern and the staff all seem efficient in their roles. Problem I have is that the consultation and aftercare was with a patient assistant (in Manchester) and never with the surgeon. The only time I met with Dr.Van Canneyt was for 10 minutes before and for two minutes after surgery. Then I walked my merry way back to the hotel! So in my opinion, pre and aftercare is a bit of a joke because I just didn't have the time to connect with the surgeon. Even at the time it all felt a bit inadaquate, but I thought, well I'm here now so no going back... and I had to place all my trust in him from merely a handshake and a briefing. No offence to Sue Dechamps the assistant (who attended my surgery also) she is lovely, but I would prefer to talk to my surgeon about any concerns and not a third party.
I initially wanted to do this in 2006 but I missed my appointment with Dr Oelbrandt. So he has been there some years. I don't recall been given a choice of surgeons curiously this time around.
Everything will be fine, just look after yourself in terms of organising flights/trains, accomodation/routes in advance because the procedure itself was a doddle for me but travelling back post-op was tiring. Late trains/hotel reception altercations etc. You don't need that stress.
Post here and let us know what happened afterwards as there is not a lot of info on them and they are a very large business serving all Europe.

Hi. I wish you the best of luck. I know that my rhinoplasty changed my life for the better and I can only imagine that you will feel the same. It is so important to have a surgeon that you are comfortable with because I think that cosmetic surgery is such an emotional process. There are other things about the procedure and the attitude of the staff at Dr Van Canneyt's clinic that I haven't mentioned because they are my subjective experience, although other people on other boards have echoed my thoughts. Suffice it to say that Dr Van Canneyt operated on one patient after another from early in the morning until later in the evening and one had a sense of being on a conveyer belt and being moved through as quickly as possible with little individual care and attention. My poor results lead me to believe that the surgery was as careless as the pre and post operative care. I am glad that you have found someone who has great reviews.

Please check the sofeminine board for others who have had a less than stellar experience. This is a very personal decision and I do wish you all the best.

Hi thanks for yOur feedback, thi is the only negative thing I've heard about dr v canneyt. Sorry about your bad experience but I do believe that there o a risk of something going wrong with any surgeon no matter how good they are! I'm still booked with dr van canneyt for march and will hve to deal with it if something goes wrong. I appreciate your fees back thou

Louise, I had lipo with Dr Van Canneyt last year and the results are uneven and lumpy. There is also visible scar tissue across my lower belly. I had rhinoplasty years ago in the US and my experience was vastly different and I have been so happy with my nose ever since. I would not recommend Dr Van Canneyt.

Hi there and welcome to RealSelf! I haven't heard of the doctor you mention, but then, I'm much more familiar with doctors in the US. Make sure he specializes in rhinoplasty and that you communicate to him that you do not want your tip brought up. You also might want to discuss whether or not you want a "scooped" nose or left straight. That's one thing I did not clarify with my PS and wish I had.

Good luck and please consider starting your story in RealSelf's rhinoplasty review community. (Click on Write a Review). Here you can upload photos and video if you'd like, post updates, and get some good support from others! Hope to see you there soon!
