Hi. When I was 20 years old (almost 18 years ago now), I had goretex lip implants put in by a "reputable" surgeon in Sydney, Australia- so reputable I can not locate him anymore - perhaps he has retired?!?! . At the time, I had a horrendous reaction and my entire mouth was engulfed in cold sores and swelling. Eventually the swelling (and the sores) subsided and I was satisfied with the look. They felt HORRIBLE though. My boyfriends (over the years) would comment on how hard and un-natural they felt, but looking youthful, and made up I was prepared to bare with them because they 'looked' OK. Fast forward 18 years, and they are bumpy, uneven and my smile is asymmetrical. The photo's don't do it justice. Over the years, the goretex on my upper lip has moved north, and now as I smile, I have 2 bumps almost touching my nose and my top lip has thinned. Recently, the 'bump' on my upper right has started to become painful on touch - like its hitting a nerve or something?!?! Putting on lip liner brings tears to my eyes or if my young daughter kisses me, it takes all my effort not to pull away. There are parts of my lips (especially my lower lip) where there is no gortex- it has moved and bunched up over to the left. Its just horrible. I feel emotionally sad and embarrassed. My question is... has ANYONE had their goretex lip implants removed? And if so, what is successful? Especially after 18 years?. I have found minimal research or topics on the web. The one I did find, included a doctors advice saying it can but difficult to do so due to potential scarring- and most likely detrimental in doing so. Can anyone recommend an excellent plastic surgeon (in Australia, preferably Sydney) who might have experience in this type of proceedure, or the confidence to do so. I am terrified of being disfigured. Thanks in advance.
