Fraxel: Pin pricks/Orange Peel Texture

By FSRB on 18 Sep 2011

Does this strange pin prick/orange peel texture ever fade?  I am 15 months out from 3 very, very aggressive treatments.  Some of the holes form together to make lines.  Are these microscars, pores or laser pattern?  I am beginning to think that I am stuck with this texture!!

I also have this problem, can someone check my pictures to see if it looks the sane way as yours please?

Yes it looks similar to what I have seen in my skin for several weeks after treatment, maybe as much as 3 months after. But it has always faded away, specially after starting to add tretinoin 0.1% to my night Obagi treatment. In your case your treatment was focused on your nose and may have been a bit aggressive, I use Fraxel for acne scars mostly in cheeks, there is more fat and thicker skin there, around eyes, where skin is thinner is were I first noticed the little dots. Again, there are different models of Fraxel that are less or more aggressive, mine was SR1500 with Erbium Yg Laser and one time with terbium laser, this last one is even less strong that the Erbium one. Usually 70joules 6-8 passes. You should be aware of your settings. Probably you can try Obagi Nu-derm system with tretinoin. If it works you will see good results and improvement in about 6-8weeks. Good luck.

Hi! I have had this procedures three times now, one year apart each from the other. The "weird" texture only last few weeks after treatment for me. The laser that is used on me is the Fraxel Restore SR1500 which is not the strongest one. I am so happy with the results. My skin has improved a lot over this 3 years. I have been using Obagi products all this time too (with tretinoin in one of the creams). If the procedure is done by professionals with the right settings I think it has to produce good results.

Interesting....I have heard that Dr Obagi puts his patients on Accutane for a short period after treatment to shut down oil glands. To me this makes sense.

Not sure if it gets better - yet... 9 months after treatment and I have the same orange peel look in areas. Stretch your skin (for example, if in cheek area, press out skin with tongue)to see if the problem is from enlarged oil glands under the skin. That appears to be my problem - which is not a problem that I had before treatment.
