Fraxel: Pin pricks/Orange Peel Texture

  • FSRB

Does this strange pin prick/orange peel texture ever fade?  I am 15 months out from 3 very, very aggressive treatments.  Some of the holes form together to make lines.  Are these microscars, pores or laser pattern?  I am beginning to think that I am stuck with this texture!!

Derma Pinning by an experienced tech will not hurt you, it will help the scars. I am a plastic surgeon who has had Derma pining 7 times with great results. Since you such problems with laser you better find the right person this time ( we do not do Derma Pining in my office, I had to go elsewhere)

Hi yes I was treated in Sydney facial rejuvenation clinic. I am soo scared of anything at this point but I will definately look into other methods if things don't improve in a year or two, at this point I will only go gentle. I was thinking peels but to be honest my damage goes so deep it's like icepick scarring all over and I doubt peels can do much. What do you think about needling? I called a plastic surgeons office and they thought dermabrasion might be beneficial but to me the risks outweigh potential benefits at this point. It was hard enough to try and get rid of acne scars, I can't imagine how anything could make laser scarring better.

Yeah I'm in the same boat . I totally feel your pain about being TERRIFIED to undergo any further treatments . I'm researching skin needling and there is a lot of conflicting information out there . The dermal roller ( official) website is interesting but again they are a company selling a product . Sarah vaughter from owndoc might be able to answer questions regarding needling , she sells the dermal rollers she had tested and posts lots of research and findings on dermal rollers . Yeah also dr ajaka from Cosmo clinic in Sydney says that dermal rolling has the same effect as resurfacing but no thermal damage . The only thing is that 3 needling = 1 fraxel . As far as results go , but for us we have horrendous results so maybe it is a safer slower way to go . I hear derma pen is more harmful due to scratching the skin surface and some dermal rollera are blades that scratch the skin instead of a clean piecing effect . Also with no heat, needling wounds close in 30 min ( pin point bleeding ) and the healing is much quicker . I'm def going to try it out but my doctor says of your skin has a healing defect or your body cannot repair it may leave scars as would any procedure . So if I try it she suggested nothing over 0.75 . Start with .05 . It is enough to have pin point bleeding and stimulate the dermis but not aggressive as 3m needle witch is controversial . Also google dr des fernadas and environ products / and sonapharisis for vitamin enhancement and reducing scars . These are all things I have been researching , hope in a small way it helps :)

Thanks I will also start looking into those. That's what I initially thought I don't heal well, plus if these holes go too deep I don't see how they can fill out again? So tired of living like this I truly am , I can't believe this is what they put me through knowing I had a fear of complications and still lied to me. I honestly can't see myself going on like this I'm so broken and distressed.

I had three consults about fraxel and was so scared of complications I choose the so called safe non ablative Palomer emerge laser . I'm so lucky I didn't take the doctors advice and do another 3 to fix the first laser damage . One session literary f$&"ed my whole face . No complications no down time , I got fed that crap as well . Trust me I know how sickening it is . I felt a gut feeling not to do more laser to fix the damage. I can't possibly see how a laser that ruined my porcelain skin ( apart from 2 chicken pox marks ) could be capable of anything but damge . I really feel strongly that it is the grid pattern that ruins everyone . If it is full ablative doctors are so much more carful !! Because it is fractional they feel the need to go much deeper to the dermis , thinking it will be fine not test patching and aggressively pushing treatments . I think doctors assume fractional is safer and there lies the problem , to confident and too aggressive . Deep peel and resurfacing are for surgeons not cosmetic injectors and RN"s .

Also google first generation copper peptites , as the second and third generation cause damage ? Or something . Apparently there are true copper peptites for healing and mimicking damaging ones . I think Sarah vaughter does an article on them . Also I have looked into the clinical studies and medical journals of retin a and it is proven to rejuvenate and produce collegen . It must be used on a long term plan , and build up strength over months. Slow and steady and long term . Don't know if you have tried that ? It takes 6 months to see results and up to years to reverse true DNA damage . I ordered some and will post if it is successful or I think it's helped in anyway. Also vitamin c is responsible for would healing and collagen stimulation . So lots daily and especially on skin . Lots of vit c are useless on the market . I'm reserching a good one . Also green smoothies and the hardest of all - being happy ... So damn hard . I struggle everyday . But even the tiniest amount of stress releases so many damaging reactions on the body , causing the body to use antioxidants to fight the hormones and stress , instead of healing . You can also look into the physiology of the body and stress impact. It's so hard though . At the moment I try to calm myself down and completly zone out . Go to sleep . Play a iPad game ect . Do what u have to to survive type thing. Anyway ill keep you posted if I find any good doctors in syd , or anything that works .

Thanks sandy!! It is so hard every day, I have to put make up on blind without looking in the mirror until I feel it's covered enough so I am game to look from distance and do my eyebrows and just a dab of mascara. I wouldn't have to use makeup that much if it wouldn't be these horrible icepick holes from fraxel! I haven't touched retin a as I am not convinced it does anything but cause inflammation that makes skin look good. I have read few laser victims use retin a and they regretted it, chemical burn on top of laser burn. I eat a lot of vit c but all I put on my skin is Psoria gold. I might add retin a after a year to slightly help pg penetrate better but I know my skin will not be able to tolerate it. I believe my temples look bad because I used retin a eye cream or something similar which did nothing but swell skin, and I believe the vit a was too much on my damaged skin because my temple areas look hideous and scarred, I never had a scar in my temples. I wish I could at least get an eye for an eye and do this to the person who treated me. I would love to hear how you will go with this I'll keep you posted as well. Send me your email or msg private if you need to, also if you find a good clinic please let me know(:

Sandy S, I wanted to commend you for encouraging others and giving some great tips about helping repair skin damage, I love your green smoothies tip, I strongly believe in healthy nutrient rich food healing our bodies, so keep it up! You are absolutely correct about stress causing havoc on your body, thank you for mentioning that. I also went through a pretty horrible experience last year that I had to dig my way out of, it's not easy but with support and encouragement from others and a strong desire to move forward you can do it. My story is Blackberry11, I understand all too well how emotional distress can take on toll on your health/mind. So again, thank you for giving others guidance and hope :)

Hi Llennej and congrats for seeing some improvement! I will google that although I am so poor right now I doubt I'll be able to get anything expensive right now/: What are the main ingredients in that perricone stuff? Most lotions simply cause just enough swelling of the tissues to mask the problems, not fix it. Are you sure this is not just swelling you see? Sorry to sound so sceptic but after all this hoo haa about lasers and retin a I am so sceptical of anything really! I am so glad things are looking up for you though only last night I was battling to come to terms with these holes that are so deep. You can clearly see the line where laser went leaving stamp marks behind and nothing is improving. How long since you had your damage?

I've been battling with the repercussions since January. I took before and after pictures and it truly is ... well... disgusting how my face can deteriorate like that. I totally understand what you mean (about being skeptical and all). From my understand, perricone isn't a cosmetic or even a skin care line... it is an actual medical intervention. The neuropeptide and the DHA? are all components that go deep into your skin to stimulate cell growth. They are not temporary fillers. I'm not 100% sure to what extent these ingredients are impacting my actual collagen growth? but... we shall see. I have only been using this product for 7 weeks now... and After 10 months of non stop trying and despair... I am feeling a bit better with myself. I also am talking a lot about this with my therapist to help me just... accept the fact that I'm a prime case of medical/cosmetic procedures gone horribly bad.

I just woke up and these holes are even worse I didn't know they could get any worse , it has truly eaten up my skin. I hate my skin now I wish I could go back in time and never go to that clinic! This is going to be my permanent hell I can't function. Is it possible for you to send images of your skin in private for me?

Yes of course send me your email Address and I'll send you my pictures. Remember-- when you're feeling down your body is under duress and therefore can appear to be .. Less glowy/less plump. Drink water, try to relax, and try to take deep breaths so that the oxygen can circulate throughout your body ...

I'm six months out of palomer emerge non ablative laser . Ruined my skin . Textural changes , orange peel , broken capillary , patches , itching , slow healjng , it literary destroyed my skin .
  • Reply
Try Psoria gold contact them first that's what I am on, I'm too far out to heal I fear but you as six months might still get help from it.

I also have this problem, can someone check my pictures to see if it looks the sane way as yours please?

Yes it looks similar to what I have seen in my skin for several weeks after treatment, maybe as much as 3 months after. But it has always faded away, specially after starting to add tretinoin 0.1% to my night Obagi treatment. In your case your treatment was focused on your nose and may have been a bit aggressive, I use Fraxel for acne scars mostly in cheeks, there is more fat and thicker skin there, around eyes, where skin is thinner is were I first noticed the little dots. Again, there are different models of Fraxel that are less or more aggressive, mine was SR1500 with Erbium Yg Laser and one time with terbium laser, this last one is even less strong that the Erbium one. Usually 70joules 6-8 passes. You should be aware of your settings. Probably you can try Obagi Nu-derm system with tretinoin. If it works you will see good results and improvement in about 6-8weeks. Good luck.

Hi! I have had this procedures three times now, one year apart each from the other. The "weird" texture only last few weeks after treatment for me. The laser that is used on me is the Fraxel Restore SR1500 which is not the strongest one. I am so happy with the results. My skin has improved a lot over this 3 years. I have been using Obagi products all this time too (with tretinoin in one of the creams). If the procedure is done by professionals with the right settings I think it has to produce good results.

Interesting....I have heard that Dr Obagi puts his patients on Accutane for a short period after treatment to shut down oil glands. To me this makes sense.

FRSB , do you know why this is ? There was a member on real self trying to fix huge post laser damage , and she was give a year of accutane, her name was vikky or vicky (not sure of spelling) but she said her face changed so much and after 3 years of batting laser damage it did fix her problem . She said it restructures skin and causes the renewal process to be quicker ? Although I though accutane can produce abnormal healjng effects ?? After I try a few other avenues of fixing my problem with severe laser damge , I think I will try to pursue this idea . I'm going to try skin needling , maybe chemical peels , ect first because you cannot do any of these treatments untill a full year after accutane .

Depending on the degree of damage your face has, chemical peels may not necessarily make a long term difference because the laser has damaged our deeper layer of skin .... Two dermatologists told me volume loss and collagen damage are the main reasons why my face's texture is messed up & why I have microscarring... I never thought of accutane as a potential option but I can see why that might work. 1. Cell turn over which will then exfoliate the top layer. 2. Vitamin A which will help promote healing in the deeper layers of your skin...I think I'm going to go talk to my doctor about it!

Yeah I do understand that the laser went into the dermis of my skin and that's where the problem is . I feel like my problem is deeper than the surface , but with saying that the pin holes and new scarring the laser caused seems to be shallow , like little burnt holes , I'm hoping if I can reduce the depth of the scars and fix the texture and then later work on the dermis and the skin structure . I have had no professional treatments yet so I'm still in the deciding phase. I send myself insane trying to come up with a solution to this . It's so torturous , I think of the negatives the positives , the side effects , other people's story's , then I try to investigate medical journals because all company's just want you to buy their products . It's the most horrible process . Some days I cannot get out of bed or even function . I call my husband some mornings in panic attacks that I have to go out of the house . I haven't seen friends avoid family . It's the most soul and confidence destroying thing that's ever happened . People don't understand and unless its happend to them . Hopefully everyone can learn from each others story's and we can find an answer .

This is vickyy story , she posted this on the how to fix laser damage forum , Hi everyone. I'll share with you my experience of recovering from huge post-fraxel damage, that I got three years ago. I thought it was the end of my life. I was 30 by that time and aged 10 years within 4 months. Trying to remove minor post acne scars, I got hyper pigmentation, redness, saggy skin, loss of fat around my eyes and on the right cheek. My life turned into nightmare. I underwent most expensive treatments and visited most famous docs, who did not give any hope, until I found one dermatologist, who turned out to be a real genius. She prescribed me a year course of roaccutane combined with vitamin therapy. And then a year later a course of biorevitalisation. Now I have such a dramatic change to my look, that most of my friends think that I've undergone plastic surgery. Roaccutane is usually prescribed for acne treatment, but it has also powerful capacity of restructuring inner skin tissues that give permanent skin lift. DO NOT BELIEVE to those who say that roaccutane is dangerous and harmful. I passed one year course and stay healthy and beautiful. They spread this fake information, because iroaccutane is cheap and helps to solve so many skin problems, that if people start taking it, most beauty clinics will go bankrupt. BUT YOU SHOULD TAKE ROACCUTANE ONLY UNDER DOCTOR'S CONTROL!!!!! Regarding hyper pigmentation, I had two 15% TSA pilings 4 months prior to roaccutane treatment (you can take after the treatment). And Spongilla lacustris L masks during the treatment. If you need more detailed description please write to my email vsedova@yahoo.com. I will be happy to share with you my experience. I know what nightmare you are passing through. PLEASE DO NOT FALL INTO DESPAIR, as I did one day. This problem is solvable. Vickyy So maybe go to her profile and contact her ?! She hasn't posted pics and I've tried to email her , but I guess people want to forget the hell they have been put through and move on after they find a solution .

Sandy.s-- I'm sorry if I came off too dismissing-- I 100% understand the despair and hopelessness you are experiencing right now. Whenever I told others about my sadness, I felt like they didn't understand.. That they just dismissed my sadness as vanity. However, I relentlessly researched and consulted and tried... So I just wanted to share what I learned in hopes that maybe it will help you seek out the right professional help as well. Three plastic surgeons, 4 dermatologist, and too many aestheticians all told me the same thing: 1. The top layer of my skin has thinned greatly due to the lasers. Therefore, my skin is incredibly sensitive and fragile. Procedures geared towards resurfacing only the top layer may appear to help the overall look of my face, but they all claim that what it will actually be doing is making me even more susceptible to damage on the top epidermal layer of my skin in the long run. 2. They all say that the shallow scarring, wrinkles, and ice pick marks are the result of collagen and fat loss. Therefore, reviving and restoring the structural membranes are what will ultimately show long lasting results. I guess slow and steady wins the race -- or in this case, help me regain confidence to stand in front of family And friends in the sunlight. They recommended collagen, Coq10, C, A, and DHA vitamin supplements to help my body/remaining lipids and collagen hold onto water in my skin. Also, incorporating a retinA (the topical ones prescribed from doctors are very harsh), exfoliating gently once or twice a week (using probiotic based products -- easily done with a whole fat plain yogurt mask or whole day Greek plain yogurt mask), and changing your diet will give your body the BEST ammunition to regain some of what it lost (I know you've heard all of this before ... But after 11 months of doing this religiously... I'm seeing results) I will gladly send you pictures of my before the laser, after the laser, and my current. Just let me know your email address and I'll send them to you I'm never going to be where I was, but yesterday-- I went to work and my boyfriends without any bb cream on my face. No primer, nothing.. Just me. And I checked the mirrors a thousand times... But I survived my first day of truly being exposed. Little feats are what I will now take as successes.
