Has anyone felt disappointed with the appearance of their breasts after their implant surgery?

By Annie in Mpls on 11 Mar 2012

I had bilateral  mastectomy  and expander surgery in August. Last week, the expanders were replaced with Mentor implants. Today I removed the bandages for the first time and I feel very disappointed. My breast look small, even though they are 500 ccs, and they seem to bulge out above nd below the scar. Will their shape improve? Is it typical to feel this way?

Thanks for the encouraging words. It has been 3 weeks now and I am feeling much better about my new breasts. The biscuit shape is gone. They are more rounded. The best news is that I am much more comfortable and I will never have to wear a bra again!

Hi Annie,
So sorry to hear you are disappointed in the appearance of your breasts. You have been through a long journey since being diagnosed with breast cancer. It is good to know there is another survior in the ranks.
I can tell you from experience that the final result of your reconstruction will also take time to be revealed.
Staying in touch with your plastic surgeon and discussing your concerns will help to allay your fears.. If something should really be wrong, you and he/she will be right on top of it. Many of us have had revisions after the initial surgery.
Please keep in touch to let us know how you are.

You are certainly not alone in feeling disappointed. Here are some reviews by community members who expressed similar feelings:

“How Do I Choose the Best Size Implants After Mastectomy? Going from 475cc to 650cc - Daytona Beach, FL”

“Not Happy with Reconstruction, More Asymmetrical Than Before”

I would reach out to these ladies and see how they are doing now, and what advice they might be able to offer.
