So I am just over 5 weeks post-op VSG. During the first 2.5 weeks on my modified liquid diet (since every doctor seems to have a different protocol, mine was hydrating liquids, protein drinks, and soup only if it could be strained through a very fine strainer) I lost 26 lbs. After starting the "soft foods" phase (eggs, ground beef, chicken, etc- they said high protein foods first and anything you can cut with a fork, has no skin, and no seeds; toast, crackers) I gained 3lbs. After talking to some people I heard this was somewhat normal and I shouldn't be weighing myself everyday to start with. Over the past 2.5 weeks that 3 lbs has come and gone a few times, yeap despite the suggestions I've still been weighing myself.. I know I need to get the scale out of my house. But I haven't lost any more than that. I sent my nutritionist a detailed list of my diet and she said to eat more frequently and she "wasn't worried because so many people plateau after switching to soft foods for 2-4 weeks." My biggest concern right now is, it doesn't even feel like I've had surgery. I mean, I can tell a tiny decrease in my appetite but honestly not much. But the big issue is, they told us we should feel "full" from 1/4-1/2 cup of food right now. This does not happen for me. I can eat 3/4-1 cup of food already and still not even feel the slightest bit of discomfort or "fullness." I chew well, don't drink, and eat slowly (about 20 minutes.) For example, I can eat a whole "Smart Ones" frozen meal- as long as they are <10g sugar and 5g of fat per my nutritionist. The WHOLE thing. And still not even feel "full." I stop myself and I won't eat anything else because I don't WANT to push it and feel nauseous or stretch my stomach, but at the same time it just seems like I am supposed to be feeling SOMETHING, right? During my first week I waited too long and got really hungry and ended up eating a whole Hardee's Low Carb Thickburger and ate it way too quickly- I did feel discomfort then! It was not pleasant! So again, I'm not TRYING to feel this way, it just seems like I am able to comfortably consume too much food considering I'm only 5 weeks out of surgery. Since I did feel that discomfort one time, I know my surgeon had to have removed at least part of my stomach, but I'm wondering if maybe he didn't remove enough? Or if maybe my stomach isn't communicating well enough with my brain to send the signal that I am full? It just worries me for the long run. I mean, to have put on 3lbs and stalled so early when I was barely even getting 600 calories/day (though I was meeting my 60g protein) and being able to eat more than 1/2cup food, I am just afraid I won't end up losing a lot of weight. Any experience you guys can share would be appreciated.
