Liposuction is expensive and, importantly, far from risk-free means of eradicating your stubborn fat.  Results from cosmetic surgery can be unpredictable, as demonstrated in reader submissions of liposuction surgery reviews.  This drives demand for liposuction alternatives that are less invasive, less expensive, more predictable, and offer quicker recovery.

Liposuction alternatives

Traditional methods of body slimming include rigorous exercise and a healthy diet. If there are body areas that you want to tone up or trim down, talk to a personal trainer and he or she will guide you in choosing the activities that can help you achieve those goals. As for a diet, experts recommend that you burn more calories than you consume daily.

Laser therapies

Many patients are confused about terms like laser liposuction, laser lipolysis, or laser-assisted liposuction. It should be understood that these procedures are not actually liposuction alternatives, but new ways to supplement the traditional liposuction process. The laser is used to help melt the fat prior to performing a traditional-type liposuction procedure. It can make the fat removal easier and more consistent. There are claims that the laser helps to tighten skin, and this may be true but is unproven thus far.  Zerona is a device manufactured by Erchonia for treating fat and marketed as a non-surgical, non-invasive alternative to liposuction.

Lipodissolve or injection lipolysis is a method in which a solution is injected into the fat and the fat cells rupture.  The fat is then removed by the bodies inflammatory system.  There have never been any rigoruous studies on the safety or efficacy of lipodissolve.

Tummy tuck

Neither liposuction nor a tummy tuck is intended to be a weight loss solution, but a tummy tuck is another common way to slim down and improve the contour of your abdomen. The best procedure for you depends upon your anatomy. Liposuction will only remove excess fat in spot areas.  The skin must then rely on its own elasticity to shrink back. If one has a great deal of excess skin, then an abdominoplasty is a better choice. In this procedure, not only is extra skin and fat removed directly, but the abdominal wall is also tightened. Some patients will benefit from a combination of the two, and in some cases, this can be performed at the same surgery. Your surgeon can best evaluate your needs during a formal exam.
