What should I expect 7 weeks after Tummy Tuck?

I need someone to talk to thats in my situation. It's hard talking to people who don't really get it. Today makes my 7th week after TT. I'm still wearing the tummy wrap all day and to sleep. A couple times I have worn spanxs just to look right in my clothes. My Dr. said I can exercise after 6 weeks but when I walk to much,my stomach starts to tighten up. Before surgery I could walk 3 to 4 miles. I don't feel ready to do that yet. I'm still wearing elastic clothing because I feel uncomfortable in regular jeans. My stomach still very swollen with fluids. Some days better than others. I love the way the stomach look. So satisfied with results but getting just a little impatient with full results. My Doc said this could last up to six to nine months. If I knew what I know now. I still would have gotten it done but I would have been more prepared mentally to deal with it. I guess I'm here just to talk to someone who understands what I'm going through right now.

I am feeling the same thing. I know this original post is older but still felt the need to comment on here. I was 6 weeks post op from TT and HRepair on 4/14/14 and started seeing more swelling above my BB but below my rib area. Not any different color or different skin texture like an abscess but in the later afternoon it feels more sensitive to touch and almost kind of warm. Maybe in just being paranoid since it is in the area where the hernia was and I'm getting swelling later in the day from the healing process that might still be happening in that area. I have read about others having extra draining done post op because of things like that. I'm trying to avoid other types of medical websites rather than cause myself to be more paranoid. Will probably call the PS office and see what they suggest but sometimes they can say "what you want to hear". I prefer the personal side, any info would be appreciated!!

Hi, thanks for posting. I will say 6 weeks is still early. I think our minds do play tricks on us from time to time. Its been two years now for my TT. I still get swelling in my ab area. I have no pain and my scars has healed really well. Like I said in an earlier post I did gain like 5 pounds and I can really see if around my tummy. I think I need some lipo to go with my TT tuck but I decided I would work on that myself. Its like everything is so stiff in the beginning. Once your body adjust it seem like your skin start to loosin up again. Women that work out on a regular basis has the better results because their actually firming the skin and body so end results are way better. I'm working to get there and I will finally post a photo here soon. Don't worry it will get better and you will be back to normal in no time. Just be patient and don't rush the healing process. Please work out and take care of your investment. Its the way to remain successful.

I am just over 7 weeks and my flanks are still bigger then I thought they would be. I had a great doctor. I am also unprepared for what is and went on with my body. I read that at 12 weeks your body is pretty much the way it is going to look. I don't know if that is true. I read a lot on here and there are so many different answers. I am working out now, can not do what I was but am working up to it. I am always in a state of confusing.

Honey its going to be a long road ahead. Just take good care of yourself and watch what you eat. I will be 2 years next month and I still bloat. I'm just getting use to it now. I like how I look first thing in the morning. I wish I could go through the day without eating to stay flat. That's not going to happen. lol Take care!

Hi Shasha4, your only 8 weeks which is to soon to tell. Its a long journey honey. You will swell up and down for a long time. All I can say is, when its time to exercise do it. Try not to gain any weight. Don't over eat because it looks like your pregnant when you do. Believe it or not, I'm almost 2 years and I still swell. Everybody is different and I'm just learning to deal with it. When I want to look cute and flat. I will eat very light. I actually gained 5 pounds and I can see a love handle coming on. I'm trying to lose the weight now. Be very patient because it takes a while. I'm not completely satisfied either. I love that fact that the fat is not there but I still swell. Hope that helps!

I didn't get any smaller than I was before, just a flat stomach and a really nice defined waist shape. I don't really get any swelling though, so I guess I'm lucky in that way.

Yes you are! Everybody is different so we all wont have same results.

You may need lipo at the top. You probably didn't go down in size because you only got excess removed. Not your hips or butt. At least you have a flat Tummy to be proud of. Good luck.

I know how you feel. I felt the same way because I did not know all of this was going to be like this. I am six weeks and still don't feel free to anything with exercising yet. Still I feel pain and tightening of my stomach muscle. I am still swollen and cant lift anything. I guess the best thing to do is still take it easy.

I had my tt almost 5 weeks ago. I Have been doing light weights lunges and pre core. I wear my garment all the time in stage 2 now or wear spandex. My dr said to wear the binder for about 8 to 12 weeks! No abs until he gives me the ok! I feel so much better I can work out! I am in the fitness field and teach but as of now I do low impact while my participates do high! He said in 5 days I can jump very excited about that but will see how I fell! My stomach still has that tight feeling but not as numb!! I think everyone is different! Each day feels better but I am still swollen too!! Good luck !

Posting this for iluvmyboys since the other posts are pretty old. I was still kind of pitiful at seven weeks. My PS said I could ditch the binder at three weeks and Spanx at six weeks, and return to ALL exercise, even running and crunches, at six weeks. Ha! I thought that was laughable. I was still taking muscle relaxants (Soma) because I had spasms from the muscle repair that lasted to about ten weeks. My swelling was worse between six and ten weeks than it had been immediately after surgery...even my breasts were swollen! I think I swelled a lot because I was travelling a lot for work, and sitting still in the car for long periods of time. I started to feel more like myself, and went back to light jogging and low impact aerobics at ten weeks. I started boot camp, crunches, weight training, and swimming at fifteen weeks. It is a looooong recovery period. Take care!

I turn 7 weeks today and I'm also very inpatient cuss I wanna start working out like before I had my tt. I was doing insanity and I was really starting to get into it when I had my tt. Now I see my hubby doing it and I'll admit I get a lil jealous. My doctor said I can start exercising but no stretching or hard withouts like abs or zumba so that means only walking. He said I could swim but it's confused make cuss swimming involves a lot of stretching. I've been going on walks n haven't felt bad just on down hills my tummy start feeling weird. Having in there I feel you girl just have patience and remind yourself that we are going to look so hot ounce we're fully recovered and we go back to our regular routine.

Ok, I seen my Doc on Thursday. He told me to walk only until I make 12 weeks. I wear binder or spanx everyday. I walked 2 miles Saturday and Sunday. It felt good to get back out there. I had a little pain last night after I cleaned the shower. I think I was over board with reaching. Today my stomach is so tight. I almost felt like I wanted to walk hutched over again but I made myself stand straight. So how are you feeling today?

Yes, I always wear my binder to workout, or I wear the pull on waist cincher you can see a pic of in my review pics. I wear obe or the other when I know I am going to be doing a lot of walking at the mall or other shopping. I wish I had worn it when fixing stuff for my daughter's baby shower Sunday cause I hurt and did not really get to enjoy it after being on my feet so much. I do not plan to do any classes until after my abs are recovered. Too many instructors seemed to not like it when I skipped or modified their ab sections of the workout because I could not or knew better than do what they were doing when I had a diastasis pre op. Unless I can do all the moves in a class I won't do the class. I love the elliptical. It is low impact and I always use the reverse feature for a better overall workout. I have not seen any home use ellipticals that have that or I might consider getting one for the house. Last night I tried Just Dance on the wii with my daughter and had a blast with her and we both had a good workout :D It feels good to feel good, and with moderation, i have found lately that strapping my binder on and moving around makes some of my discomfort and aches disappear. At least it did last night.

So tweetymom8 do you only use binder when working out? My preference is to walk also. I don't have a gym membership but I think I will get one. I need to work on my arms, legs and back. I have a treadmill and free weights but I like the elliptical. I'm thinking about purchasing one. Some exercise classes wouldn't hurt either. I had a itch attack last night, right under my incision in the middle area. I'm good now though.

I am seven weeks as of yesterday. I wear my binder to workout. I never run. I do elliptical or walk. I go to a gym and to arms legs and elliptical. I also walk and do a few "pool calisthenics". I make sure to do things that do not work my abs much. My tummy is hurting tonight cause I sat on the bed hunched over a laptop the wrong way. Had to put spanx like top and binder on and it is still stinging when I move the wrong way. My sister said to expect it to be at least three months and maybe longer before I can even think about working abs. She had a tuck ten years ago.

Thanks for the comment. This binder is the pits. My Doc ask me to wear it for a while. I also use spanx when i go out. Binder to bulky! I have a follow up appt tomorrow. I will ask about wearing the binder. He's so set on me wearing it but said spanx is ok too. Just wants me to compress with something. Wow I can't believe you haven't wore your binder in 4 weeks. He told me to wear mine up to 12 weeks. Plus after that wear at night when I'm sleeping. He said it was for the best result. Did you get a full tuck? I'm jealous that your running already. Good for you!

I got a full tuck but I didn't have as much muscle repair as thought. Just around the belly button. Not bad I guess after having two kids. My running progress has been slow. I could barely do a mile on my first out and even walked a lot of it. Before surgery I could run 3-4 miles. I actually forget I had the surgery now unless I do a lot during the day and my stomach feels tighter at night. 12 weeks to wear a compression garment is a LONG time. I feel for you!!

I will be 6 weeks on thursday and havent wore my compression garment since 4 weeks (it was too uncomfortable to wear). It felt wierd at first but the more I kept it off, the better I felt. I started running last week too. My stomach does get tight at the end of it but it is not uncomfortable like it was when i would be wearing my garment then take it off and feel like i blew up. Hope this helps. I felt free after I got rid of that stupid garment. Happy healing to you. we are in for a long road ahead of us!
