Depression?

By BKay on 09 Feb 2012

I have my TT scheduled for March 21st and pain-wise, I'm not overly worried because I went into this in 2007 knowing that there would be a great deal of pain involved...I'm more concerned with the depression I've heard comes with it. I've heard that depression is a serious condition for some who undergo a TT...would anyone like to elaborate on that? I work in the mental health field and I have had depression before so I know how serious it can be....please tell all!

I am going through it now, it comes and goes or feels that way sometimes.

The first few months were ok, got used to my new body and happy but time has passed, the scar is healing slower, I get self conciouss about it a lot now...ive only let a few people see it but I think now my depression may worsen because of rejection from a girl I met and I think the scar really threw her off but I am definitely feeling way down right now and have been for at least the past 3 weeks. Im in the process of contacting my surgeon about this as well so hopefully something good can come out of this. I am a male and it is different for me than I guess it would a woman, but I am happy to be here among so many others who understand where im coming from as well as being able to support others and give advice.

JVE,
I am so sorry to hear this! Have you considered seeing your primary physician about anti-depressants? Depression can only worsen (sometimes) without professional help. I have been working in the mental health field for a little over 5 years now and I have to tell you that this IS one of my fears for having this elective surgery. I am always here if you ever need to talk. Man or woman, I can't understand how anyone can be judgemental. Just know that not everyone in the world is like that. There has to be a few bad apples to help you know what the good apples are(if that makes any sense, lol). I'm thinking of you and praying for you in this long recovery you are struggling with. Keep your head up. You will get through it! :-)
