How common is meralgia paresthetica after tummy tuck?

By Yrs1674 on 18 Sep 2011

I'm about 10 days post op and have developed numbness and pain in my Lower thing. The pain is making it difficult to walk and do "normal" things, like crossing my legs or lifting the leg

There's a new book devoted to Meralgia Paresthetica which is very comprehensive. Just go to Amazon and search on " Meralgia Paresthetica". You can look inside the book without downloading it, too.

I'm 16 days post op. Nerve is the same. Is your garment pressing your nerve?

I am now 15 days post op and the nerve is getting better, it's not gone complexity but is better. Now I'm fighting an infection....ugh

I'm sorry to hear that! Are you on antibiotics?

I'm experiencing the same issue

I had meralgia paresthetica during my pregnancies and I swear by cranial sacral massage. It cured me immediately when everything else did not. I highly recommend finding a massage therapist who has been trained thru the Upledger Institute in Florida. They could probably help you locate someone near you.
I know how uncomfortable and painful it is. I had a tummy tuck this summer and did not experience this, however. Run to a cranial sacral person...

Hi spinmama...I'm having numbness and pain in my lower right thigh, about 6 inches above my knee and slightly to the right. When I walk the pain gets more noticeable. The worst shooting pain is when I cross my leg or move it slightly right or left when I'm sitting. In addition I sat on edge of bathtub to shave and lifting my leg I got the pain. The dr believes the nerve is compressed because of the swelling around the scar.

Can you tell me more about your symptoms? I had some trouble after my surgery as well.

I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this nerve compression. Youch! Here's another RealSelf user who went through something similar. Maybe reading her story and comments will help. If not, you might want to consider posting a question to doctors here on RealSelf.

Thank you for the link. I went to the dr today and he really feels it will get better once the swelling goes down some more. I'm 10 days post op today and feeling well except for that. I still have sensitivity in my belly and a lot of fluid draining. Can't wait to see the final results and pray the nerve gets better. I'm a runner and that is stressing me out.
