What clothes to buy for the first month after surgery?

So I'm really lucky that I'm a teacher and I will have 5 weeks to recover before going back to work so I won't need to buy new clothes immediately, but I'm curious as to what to buy for that first month? Too hot here in FL for sweat pants, I'm assuming yoga pants or elastic waist shorts and t-shirts? Did anyone out there go down a size or two when buying these things? I know now I buy extra-large to go around my belly but I don't think I'll need XL then, will I?

Hello, I'm scheduled for TT in October. I have 3 kids, one is only 3. Am I realistic thinking my husband can take care of me post-op (and the kids) while working from home? I'm not having anyone else help me and I'm not sharing this with our parents. I'll see them 5 weeks post-op and am also wondering if it's realistic to think I can keep this private. Also travelIng internationally 5 weeks post-op. is this crazy? Or doable? Thanks.

Hi.
In spite of a complication let me encourage you. My husband and adult children are the only ones that know. Only one friend thinks I have lost weight when I really didn't lose weight but inches.
The most important advice I can give you is to follow your post op instructions. No lifting means no lifting. You will not want a three year old crawling on you nor do you want to lunge after him/her all of a sudden. Cuddles would be welcome because little people won't understand why you can't carry on as usual. Rest as much as you can. Don't expect to be standing at the counter preparing meals. Get dinners in the freezer if you need to I even found it difficult to bend to empty the dishwasher.
I would take my pain pills before I would get up in the morning or before my walking.
I traveled 6 weeks post op and this was after the complication of a large seroma and I was fine.

Thank you so much. After I posted I realized this wasn't the appropriate string for my question but thank you for your note. I will definitely take seriously the post-op instructions. I may even rethink my decision not to tell the parents. I may need my mother's help, like it or not. I can see how having her come stay after the first 10 days or two weeks would be wise. My husband can't take much time off. Glad to hear travel at 5 or 6 weeks is doable. And yes, keeping my 3 yo boy happy during my recovery will be hard. He's used to having me be his personal you-name-it. He hasn't cut the umbilical cord yet :-) In September I will be busy cooking and freezing meals. Thank you so much for the advice and encouragement. After reading the TT boards on this site I don't feel so alone anymore. Take care and you enjoy your new tummy!

Hi. Glad I could help. A little insight, if you care to read it: I had mine 1 1/2 years ago and I don't think the drains were left in long enough, probably only about 10 hours so I ended up with this seroma which I had never heard of in all the reading I did. I thought I had done my research but in retrospect did not. I was too embarrassed to think of going to a hospital so I went to a private hospital. The care was fantastic. I see from other stories most people went home with drains in but that wasn't the protocol for me. That's when my difficulties began!
Not sure why I am telling you this except I have always wanted to "tell my story"
I am very happy I did it because I just couldn't get rid of the rolls. I had 3.... my boobs and 2 more below. Now I have boobs, haha. Still too much skin when I sit but my daughter says I am not a 20 year old and I did it for me and no one else.
Thanks for replying.

I am 8 days post op TT, arm lift and breast lift. I saw my doctor today and he was very pleased with how quickly I'm healing. How long should I wait to wear spanx instead of this binder?

I had TT on 5/11, and now is when swelling is going down, I've been off binder for a week now and finally breathe good with spandex. I still can't buy clothes Dr. said I'm going down some more, he said about 3 mths. My surgery looks good and excited about end result. Oh yea I had sex on my anniversary of 4 wks. Be gentle and careful! LilGirl

Ouch!!! I am so glad that I have glue and surgery tape on my incision. My stomach is still very swollen. It's much smaller but I still have a long way to go.It is not flat at all. I still have gauze as well covering my incisions and the two places where the drainage tubes were.

I will post pics when everything is off. Hopefully I will have less swellen by then.

BEST WISHES TO ALL

Make sure you have really soft and comfy clothes for the first 8-12 weeks. Elastic or drawstring waist is best. It is all about comfort to start and not style. I actually look a little bit like something the cat drug in for a while..LOL

Teachfish70, I wore jogging pants the first 10 days after surgery but was able to wear my preop jeans if I was going out to the store, etc.

I went bact to work on day 11 and was wearing my preop dress clothes with no problem. About three weeks post op, I was able to fit into size 10 as opposed to size 12. I'm now comfortably wearing size 8's and I'm 6 weeks post op today.

Hope that helps!

I just lost 15 pounds due to bariatric surgery. We have several consignment stores here and I needed some new things so I bought some things there. One of the stores uses their proceeds from sales to help a women's care center. I took my better large sizes there. I figure this would be the way to go now. I've been able to find some nice clothes. So I'm still on the process to getting my body back. My tt and tl were scheduled on May 13th but had to be canceled due to needing urgent surgery. I would think in Florida sun dresses would be the way to go. I love them but don't get a chance to wear them because of our weather here in PA. Because of some post op complications I'm having trouble wearing anything around my waist too. So its been sweats for me. I hate going out like that but if I wear anything around my waist I have to pull the zipper down some so it doesn't rub and then cover with a large top. Hope this helps and good luck! I'm envious of you girls!
