What clothes to buy for the first month after surgery?
By teachfish70 on 31 May 2011
So I'm really lucky that I'm a teacher and I will have 5 weeks to recover before going back to work so I won't need to buy new clothes immediately, but I'm curious as to what to buy for that first month? Too hot here in FL for sweat pants, I'm assuming yoga pants or elastic waist shorts and t-shirts? Did anyone out there go down a size or two when buying these things? I know now I buy extra-large to go around my belly but I don't think I'll need XL then, will I?
In spite of a complication let me encourage you. My husband and adult children are the only ones that know. Only one friend thinks I have lost weight when I really didn't lose weight but inches.
The most important advice I can give you is to follow your post op instructions. No lifting means no lifting. You will not want a three year old crawling on you nor do you want to lunge after him/her all of a sudden. Cuddles would be welcome because little people won't understand why you can't carry on as usual. Rest as much as you can. Don't expect to be standing at the counter preparing meals. Get dinners in the freezer if you need to I even found it difficult to bend to empty the dishwasher.
I would take my pain pills before I would get up in the morning or before my walking.
I traveled 6 weeks post op and this was after the complication of a large seroma and I was fine.
Not sure why I am telling you this except I have always wanted to "tell my story"
I am very happy I did it because I just couldn't get rid of the rolls. I had 3.... my boobs and 2 more below. Now I have boobs, haha. Still too much skin when I sit but my daughter says I am not a 20 year old and I did it for me and no one else.
Thanks for replying.

I will post pics when everything is off. Hopefully I will have less swellen by then.
BEST WISHES TO ALL
I went bact to work on day 11 and was wearing my preop dress clothes with no problem. About three weeks post op, I was able to fit into size 10 as opposed to size 12. I'm now comfortably wearing size 8's and I'm 6 weeks post op today.
Hope that helps!
