Fluoride helps. If you don't have a mouthwash or rinse with fluoride in it in your house then take just your toothpaste and put it on the teeth that are hurting and just let it set there for a few minutes then rinse it off. The pain will go away, it will just take a little bit of time

I wish I would have seen this site and the comments - maybe I wouldn't be going through the same thing! This is unbearable and I have a very high tolerance to pain normally. I would never do this again nor recommend this proceedure to anyone!! How long will this last? My gums have blood all around the teeth! Nothing is helping and I am considering going to the emergency room. Any other ideas? Help!

Hi Pamela Sue, Are your gums still bloody? If I was you, I'd ice my mouth and take some ibuprofen for pain and inflammation AFTER the bleeding has stopped. Your gums are probably really irritated! I'm so sorry this happened to you :(

I did tooth whitening last year from a dentist called Dr.Stephen Phelan in Toronto.I dont experience a pain till now.But before going into such procedures remember that teeth whitening cannot be done for those whose enamel is too thin.Your dentist should have noticed this earlier. Before doing the treatment Dr.Phelan told to me about this. In fact he refused to do teeth whitening for my friend due to this reason.May be you found a wrong doctor!

Teeth whitening procedure is not so much panic in nature, it is a part of a Cosmetic dentistry procedure. As your dentist had told you, yes it is depend upon the thickness of the enamel of a person. I, too, experienced the most horrific pain after I had the BriteSmile procedure recently. Within hours of leaving the dental office, I felt like I wanted to rip my teeth out. I almost nwent to the emergency room. I have experienced pain before in my life and have a good tolerance for it - but no-one prepared me for what I went through for over 20 hours. I cannot even to begin to describe what the pain was like. The pain relief gel they give you is a joke, the pain meds they give you also do not touch this pain. I would NEVER recommend this to anyone. Also, when I told the dental staff and dentist about what I went through, they just rolled their eyes and acted like I was crazy. And, after enduring all of that my teeth only lightened up by 1 shade - and a month later, they are back to where they were. I see no difference whatsoever. DO NOT HAVE THIS BRITE SMILE DONE.
