Back to work!

By Bella863 on 14 Jan 2013

Today was my first day back to work, and I am 17 days post-op.  It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It was actually good to get out and back to the old routine.  My boss did send me home early so I didn't overdo it.  I was just curious how everyone else did, and thought this would make a good discussion for those wondering how much time to take off. (Of course, everyone is different)  How many days post-op did you go back, what type of work do you do, and any other info others might be interested in.

I'm back at work on Monday and I'm 2 weeks post op today, I feel like I'm ready just that when I do stuff I tend to get really swelled and sore that night/ the next morning - and that's just from things like going for a meal, doing a bit of shopping etc so I dread what a full week of work is going to do! Can't afford anymore time off though so will see what my PS says today and take it from there (if he suggests I shouldn't go back as it may affect my healing or anything then obviously ill listen to him, if it won't then ill just put up with the pain and increase my pain killers!)

I go back next week also, and I'm dreading the first day. Sometimes just shopping stills makes me so tired and sore. I'm definetly putting some pain meds in my purse. I plan to take it easy. Maybe I will spend my first two days catching up on 3 weeks worth of email. Good luck!!!!

Yeah me too, think im going to have a lot of emails to catch up on and luckily im literally just at a desk all day, no walking round, lifting etc so that should help! Still think im going to be exhausted though!! My boss also knows what ive had done so if i do need to take ten minutes, or even need to go home im sure he will be ok with that! I wish Id of had enough holidays to take an extra week but oh well!

I went back after 11 days. I work at a powersports dealership. I do the consumer financing, office work, parts sales, Ebay sales, among other things. Even though 80% of my job is behind a desk, I do walk around and lift quite a bit. My bosses are not understanding at all and expect me to be back to normal by now. The first day was horrible, I swelled so much. The pain level was bad so I had to take pain meds all day which made me sleepy. I'm on my 3rd week back now and its gotten better. I still swelll a little but the pain has gone down. My healing has been really good, no leaking yet. The middle of the afternoon is tough because I get real tired.

I'm a cosmetologist and I went back to work ten days post op. I'm working part time for the month. I probably should have taken more time before going back but unfortunately my bank account won't allow for that. Especially now with the medical bills. The end of the first week back I was very sore and had to resume pain meds for two days over the weekend. I still get tired very easily. Just getting myself ready for work is a bit of a struggle. I usually have to sit down and cool off for a bit after my shower before finishing my hair and makeup. Every day gets a little better. I try to rest as much as possible I'm struggling with swelling. I think I'm trying to do too much too soon.

i'm 9 days post op and will be working from home for one week and then back out in the real world. I'm overwhelmed with the tiredness - wondering if this is normal ?

As far as I know. Don't try to fight it. Rest as much as possible. You heal as you sleep.
