All about bras......

I have been living in Genie bras and Delta Burke leisure bras for weeks. I am 10 weeks post-op and finally went for a fitting today. I previously bought 2 cheap bras at Walmart in case I needed a "real" bra at a moment's notice but have not worn them yet (still cold here and I wear layers!). I went to Lady Grace today where they are "experts" but the lady never even measured me!! She asked me what I "think" I am, turns out I was right on. I tried on about 6 different styles and found 2 I loved, they were $34 and $35 so I only bought one and jotted down the style numbers and details when I was alone in the fitting room. Came home and compared prices online, got the same exact bras at JCP for $19 and $22! They are made by Vanity Fair and Warners and are VERY comfortable and flattering with no wire. :)

That's awesome! I'm having a hard time finding cute bras that fit. I'm a 32? and anything with a 34 band is to big, even when I put it on the last hook. I've been wearing sports bras and genie bras, I wear a surgical bra a night. I go back to work next week and I want more then one bra that I can wear and be comfortable in for 8 hours. I may just order another surgical bra and put them in rotation until I'm further along in recovery and able to get some nice supportive bras.

The bra I wore for 6 months was so comfortable. Costs a little bit more but it was so worth it. I had three of them so that I always had a clean one to wear. I slept in one at night as well for a long time.

I am having trouble with this at the moment, I'm one week post op and got my dressings off today, she put steri strips back on the incisions but said I didn't need the top dressings anymore and to start wearing a bra for support, I'd bought a cheaper version of the genie bra and put that on when I got back but it is so uncomfortable :( the waist band is so tight and rolls up when I sit or lye down and digs in to my underneath incisions, just got into bed and was so uncomfy to the point I was having to take deep breaths because of the tightness so have just took it off in tears and put some extra dressing strips I was given back on to sleep tonight! Should I have done this? Im so scared that she told me not to dress them and keep my bra on, but I was so uncomfortable and my underneath incisions were killing with the bra on so I didn't know what to do! Going to buy a better bra first thing tomorrow but now worried I'm going to give myself an infection or something :( going to call the hospital in the morning to explain what I did and ask their advice as although they told me not to put the top dressings back on I thought it was surely better than a bra digging into me all night?! Help!

Ems123, I definitely understand your concern. I think using the using the dressing is much better then no bra at all. I wouldn't worry for tonight but definitely look into getting some bras tomorrow. I actually like the Genie Bra, and I have also been wearing a sports bra. I was just cleared to wear bras other than my surgical bra. My PS recommended pretty much anything without a wire. Today was my first day in normal clothes( something other than a sweat shirt:) and I had my Genie bra on, I felt very comfortable and confident with my new body. Hopefully you will find a bra that is comfortable and can get you through the day and night. Happy shopping!

Thank you so much for your reply! I just rang the hospital this morning and the nurse said under the circumstances I did do the right thing but it just might set me back a bit! She told me to put my bra back on over my dressings today while shopping for support, so i put the white version on I'd bought of the genie bra this morning (I was wearing the black one) and what do you know it fits perfectly! Same size, same bra just a different colour yet is way looser on the waistband! I'm still going to go shopping this afternoon for a comfier one as I need more than just one but at least it will do me for today! She also said I could pop in and see a nurse to put my mind at ease so going to go to the hospital on the way and get them to check out my boobs and the bra and see what they think! Ill feel much better when they have checked me over and told me my boobs aren't going to fall off from all my faffing about with bras last night! Thanks again :)

You are welcome. I also that the Bali barely there bra is great. I haven't tried it but I plan to go shopping sometime this week and will look for it. I too need more bras, I have my surgical one which I find very comfortable and I sleep in it. I bought an extra surgical bra from Amazon, same brand different color yet it's not as comfortable then I have my sports and genie bra. I'm also glad everything worked out for you last night.

Well so far my white genie bra has done the trick and has been very comfortable, went shopping today and bought another black one which fits better so I think the two will do me for now! I've just had a little peak of the girls and one of my nipples had bled slighlty at some point today as there was a sport of blood on the gauze, slightly worried now but i'm hoping this is normal, just dont want it to bleed anymore or open up at all! Was out for a good few hours today shopping, first time i've done anything this week so hope I havent over done it! Don't feel too sore so fingers crossed!

Soooo I have been looking for bra's lately, like underwire bra's and its just so different! I'm used to shoving huge boobs in to a bra and feeling very supported but not its like the bra is just on me, not really doing anything since I don't really need any support. Also I'm used to having lots of cleavage and I'm not really finding anything other than sports bras that offer that. I'm about a 38D, 40C, so its not like they're really small. Does any one have any recommendations for bras after the healing process?

Looking for some bra recommendations. I'm out of my surgical bra and an accident with nailpolish ruined it, so I can't use it even sporadically. :-( PS says I don't need much support, but I'm not comfortable. Just one week post op now so I am only looking for 2 bras fully expecting to have to replace them in 2-4 weeks.

I'm a huge fan of the Genie bra. I used them before my surgery and can't with to be cleared to wear them again. It may actually fit like its suppose to... Lol

Hi All,
Well my Genie bras arrived on friday and i have worn one all day saturday.
Very comfortable and supportive. I'm not wearing it overnight as I prefer the surgical front fastening one for now, but as i heal (i am 10 days post op today sunday ( 9/9/12)I will wear it overnight too.
I can recommend Genie/Arr bra/Aire bra etc (different names - same bra) as I can step into them while i am tender and post op. Soft and comfortable. I'm waiting for the other bras i bought on line, so when they arrive I'll let you know. Debs xx x x.

Just noticed that the bandini bra I've got that I'm now in love with, is made by Barely There. I know I've seen a lot of ladies mention Barely There bras, they are so comfortable and supportive.

I love the Genie (/Arr bra/Aire bra's .... forget the names its the same garment!) bra just because its got no wires or hooks or straps.I will wear it for work when i return as my old monster bras had wires and the straps on tight. I tried to hoist the girls up as high as i could but now i've had 1.6 kilos removed from EACH breast... (7lbs in total..) I was really fighting a losing battle!! I'd love to try the bandini bra, it sounds good!

Hi ladies, I have a bra suggestion since I've been having issues finding something comfortable & supportive enough. Target has one that's called the bandeni comes in a 2 pack for $15 they work good with 2 & they are thin. Also saw walmart has a very similar bra made by hanes that comes in a 2 pack for $10, & Victoria secret has one that's just a band looking one without the convertable straps 2 for$27 and the have one that has straps looks the same & is the same price. The nice thing is they can slide up your legs, as one of the ladies on here pointed out to me. lol hope this helps anyone looking for bras!
