African American women who've had tummy tuck surgery - **Repost

By klewis0906 on 25 Oct 2011

Hi ladies - this is a repost of an older thread I found previously posted By prissy1 on 23 Mar 2011: I'm interested to know of any other african american women on this site who've already undergone their surgery and what was your healing process like? How is your incision looking and what scar care routine you used. Our skin is so different, I think this could be a help to those visiting the site looking for answers before their surgery.  If you haven't had your surgery but are scheduled, I'd like to hear from you as well.

Hi Ladies, I'm just dropping in to say, "Hi!" All is well with me. I'm still a size 6 and I just ran my first half marathon on 4-22-12. I hope all is well with all of you.

Hi ladies I haven't been here in a while. I'm 5 months post op. I still use a baseball on my stomach and scar everyday. It helps with the knots, lumps and tightness.
FitDiva 16 Apr 2012
Yellow bikini do you use the bb once a day? For how long each time? When did you start using the bb? Bbwbabi you can answer too I'd love to hear from both of you. I just found out about this bb I hope I didn't miss too much.

Hey Fit I use the bb pretty much everyday for about 15 min or longer it just depends on how my tummy is feeling that day. I started using the bb 21/2 months I think. I started using it because my incision opened. So, once it healed I had a knot of scar tissue. The bb was the only thing that worked and was the best massage for under 3 bucks. Then I moved on the rest of my stomach. It feels great on your abs if theyre tight. I normally just do it while watching tv or laying in bed. Let me know if it works for you!

Four an counting, girl.... Uggggg!

I have the blessing of a lot of time so I space, everything over four hour spans. i've been using the silly sheets for @ two weeks; I like them because my incision is still sensitive to other fabrics rubbing on it....seems to cover and heal. The Bio-oil, well, we shall see. The palmers with the Dermacil works great for the tightness I feel afterbeing bound all day and night. I also do something weird but I THINK its working...using a soft rubber ball, I gently roll it over the scar....i know, I know....lol
bbwbabi 14 Apr 2012
And yes, daily. 1st bio oil. 2nd palmers and derm 3rd massage w/ the ball. 4th silicone sheets. Every three-four hours.
FitDiva 14 Apr 2012
Ok great thanks for sharing! I heard about this ball thing. I'm honna get me one. What do you think using the ball does? It seems like it would help with the tightness and flattening of the scar. I will be getting me a ball today.
bbwbabi 14 Apr 2012
I think the ball is just an easy safe way to flatten the scar... Its strange, but working. Im super anal about all of it now- I want a pretty belly! Lol!
FitDiva 13 Apr 2012
Bbwbabi wow that's a lot of stuff but I'm up for it. Tell me when do you do what. Do you use all those daily at the same time or spread out. How's bio oil working out for you I have done of that. And what do you think about the scaraway? Have you been using that long? I'm up for whatever to have a nice scar means a lot to you so if it's every 30 minutes I'm on it!

Hi Fit and all you sista-ladies!
I had my TT w/MT and tiny lipo (to match the skin thicknesses at the pubic bone), and that was the 19th of March. I recently started using Scaraway silicone scar sheets, with Bio-oil, and palmers cocoa butter skin treatment. I added Dermacil lotion- because my skin seems extra dry now and is hypoallergenic. I also find that since my incision is closed, it seems to make everything else kinda flow on easier. Again, unless ones' incisions are closed, I wouldn't try this. ANYTHING can cause INFECTION. I wish i would have had all this available when I had my BR, but ahh, sigh**** :D

Hey Ladies!! I am ready to start major scar therapy. So far I am healing fine but I dont feel good not doing anything. So has anyone seen resulyts with silicone sheets? If s what kind is best?

What are some of you doing to manage your scars? I got a BL, BA and TT. I have bio oil and vitamin e already in my stash from previously I haven/t used it on these scars yet. Whats good to use on scars for our skin type? What you you been doing that has been working? I hear good things about silicone strips but its soo overwhelming there are so many different kinds to choose from. Thanks in advance for your time answering this. : )

I had several darker areas near my incision in the days following my surgery and they slowly evened out. Definitely follow up with your ps. Hopefully it is just a part of the healing process.

Hi ladies, I have a question. I had my TT on 2/15/12. I got a T incision. I see that there is small ara around my pubic that is darker than the other areas. Should I be worried? I don't want to develope necrosis. Please help. I see my ps on Tuesday.

Hello ladies...well I did my pre-opt on yesterday and I am a bit discouraged..my PS has recommended me for a BL (can't afford it! $20,000)if I want the max results. See, I have a lot of excess skin due to losing 139 pounds! I have a 32 inch waist but have saggin skin on my flanks. He said he can make my tummy flat but, I will still have saggin skin on my sides. I am just hoping it will all blend together and not look horrible. I am very confident in my PS for I have been studying his work. And have talked to a recent patient and her results are AMAZING...this woman had NO waistline and now she has a tiny one!! So, I am expecting my results just as amazing or even better since I already have a 32 inch waist! My date is March 2nd and I am still super excited!! Getting all my meds today!!
