I haven't heard of losing weight before surgery, unless you are overweight and the doctor feels the surgery would be safer if you weighed less.
Surgeons do tell you not to gain weight, because you have the same amount of fat cells regardless. So maybe your doctor wants the fat cells to shrink with weight loss so he can suction more of them.
