Fraxel CO2 laser and microdermabrasion for acne scar treatment

Hi Dr, I have acne scars and my health provider recommended microdermabrassion alternating with Fraxel CO2 Laser evry 2 weeks. Is this protocol safe? Does it give any benefit over the fraxel laser alone? Thank you

Hi, Both Fraxel Repair (Fraxel CO2 laser) and Fraxel Restore are often recommend by doctors on RealSelf for treating acne scars, but I'm surprised to hear that your provider recommended multiple treatments of Fraxel CO2.

Because it's such an invasive (ablative) laser treatment, usually only one treatment is done. Fraxel restore is usually done in a series of treatments... are you sure that's not the one your doctor recommended?

Microdermabrasion probably won't have much affect on your acne scars, but it will keep your skin soft and exfoliated at a superficial level. In general, I don't think microdermabrasion would offer much benefit over either of the aforementioned Fraxel lasers alone as it pertains to getting rid of acne scars.

A combination of Fraxel Restore (for acne scars) and microdermabrasion (for general skin care) sounds like a pretty standard treatment regiment to me.
