Can Septoplasty Make Bridge Appear Stronger, Taller and Straighter?

i had a rhino-septoplasty about a month and a half ago and i hate how the bridge of my nose looks. i didn't ask for a taller, stronger bridge.what i wanted was the septoplasty done so i could breathe easier and a small bump removed from the tip and he suggested taking the tip in a little, which i now regret.i used to have a nice slight sloping on my nose before this rhinoplasty and now its so tall and high i look so different. could this be swelling? and is there a way to take the tip back out?

A: Undesired appearance post rhinoplasty

If you are only a month and a half out, there is still a significant amount of swelling, so that you may not be able to say what the final result is.  You need to wait at least 6 months, and probably a full year to determine the final look.  I would express your concerns to your plastic surgeon.  Did they put in a graft over the bridge, for example? If so, then they may want to take it out down the road.  Again, however, one has to be patient. Of course, if you post pictures, that is always helpful for answering questions.

Uneven Swelling 3 Weeks After Open Rhinoplasty, Should I be Concerned

Hello, My name is Keith and I had an open rhinoplasty on September 17th to reduce the tip of nose. Today is Oct 8th so I am officially 3 weeks post op and I am really depressed. My nose looked great when I first came out of surgery but now the tip has swollen up to the point where it is bigger than before I went under. The supratip area is also very undefined leaving my profile views uneven or asymmetrical. The front view looks good but the profile very bothers me is there anything I can do??

A: Tip swelling after open rhinoplasty is normal

After three weeks, it is normal for the tip to be swollen from an open rhinlplasty to the point where it might even look bigger than before the surgery.  The fact that it looked great when you came out of surgery is the best sign that it will eventually be to your liking.  Patience pays off in this instance.

Is It Possible to Reduce Nose Bridge Height and Bring Tip Back Up After Rhinoplasty?

I had a rhinoplasty last year. I had a ski slope nose. My surgeon used cartilage grafts from my ear to build my bridge up and he also brought my tip down. I find that my old nose fit my face better (I have very soft features) and I don't like how my new nose looks from the front or sides. Is it possible to remove the cartilage grafts and bring my nose tip back up? If so, how do I find the best surgeon for my revision case?

A: Revision rhinoplasty

Hi Melinda,

Well, I'm sorry you went through  a rhinoplasty only to be disappointed with the results.  It should be fairly easy to remove the grafts. Secondary tip work is often done, but the details of what you would need are impossible to know without pictures. Have you spoken with the plastic surgeon who did the first operation? It would seem that this person is fairly well-versed in doing rhinoplasty, but ask if he or she does many secondary or "re-do" types of operations.  I wouldn't hesitate to ask that surgeon in a nice way if they could recommend someone for a second opinion. They shouldn't be upset with you for that. Take it slowly and don't rush in to anything. Good luck.
