Stage 2 Liposuction Garment?

Hi, I'm a little over 2 weeks post op from liposuction on my upper, lower abs and flanks. I received from my PS Spanx Super Higher Power compression garment. I do not like this option for a few reasons: one, I don't like the compression on my legs AND I don't like the open crotch (the slit is kinda small and doesn't seem "clean"). I'm wondering if there is something out there similar to my stage 1 garment (just something that wraps around my stomach and allows me to wear my reg underwear)

A: Options for a Stage 2 Liposuction Garment

Many options exist. Local department stores usually carry Spanx or Flexees; perhaps they make a high waisted brief or girdle that would suit you better.

Lipo In A Box makes comfortable compression and shapewear that my patients have used for their second-stage garments. They do offer at least one high-waisted brief option that you could consider.

I too use Marena garments after liposuction. Both first-stage and second-stage options are available, as well as some shapewear. If you are looking for full abdominal compression without a leg, then the LGA2 or the FBA2 would work well; both have an accessible crotch with hook-and-eye closures in the front. It does not appear that Marena offers a shapewear garment without legs.

And of course there are multiple companies that sell post-surgical compression garments. An internet search should provide you with additional options.

How Can I Get Rid of Saddlebags? (photo)

I'm 5'7" and about 120 pounds, and have a body fat percentage that ranges from 18-19%. I eat very healthy and try to work out. It seems though that no matter what I do, I cannot get rid of these little saddlebags, and it drives me nuts. I was in a dressing room today and could really see it because I was wearing skinny jeans and had a perfect view of my behind. That's when it really hit me how much I hate my butt!! Given my body size, am I still a good candidate for lipo to get rid of this?

A: Is liposuction effective for saddlebags?

In general liposuction works very well for getting rid of saddlebags.  There are some situations where it might not. For example, people who have lost a lot of weight have poor elasticity in their skin, and may need to have the area surgically removed. The same is true for the elderly (difficult to define "elderly," but my guess is that you are not in that category). There are medical conditions, such as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, which is a genetic disorder affecting collagen, whereby liposuction would not work so well. Assuming none of these situations apply to you, you would seem to be the ideal candidate, indeed the person for whom liposuction was invented.

Thanks so much for the question.

A: Liposuction is Very Effective for the Treatment of Saddlebags in Fit Individuals

Yes you are a candidate for liposuction, and you would be very happy with the results. There are many people who are fit and take care of themselves yet have an area of extra fat that continues to bother them. Your story is not unlike many others who have a problem area that just won’t go away. Sometimes these are familial fat deposits, and dieting and exercise just won’t help. Liposuction works great for these areas; it improves the shape and contour, eliminates that nagging dissatisfaction, and helps improve self-image and self-confidence.

Liposuction is a very popular procedure; the second most common cosmetic surgical procedure in 2010 according to the statistics reported by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Liposuction is an excellent procedure to safely and effectively remove unwanted fat deposits and improve any body contour. Liposuction is ideally used to treat excess fat in areas where there is no excess skin. The best candidates have a normal body weight with isolated fatty areas and reasonable to good skin quality (elasticity). The abdomen, flanks, thighs, hips, and buttocks are commonly treated areas.
