Still Have Jowls / Double Chin 2 Months Post Op Neck and Face Lift. Will It Improve?

I still have jowls and double chin. Loose skin is better than before.

A: Unfortunately, jowls won't improve

2 months after a facelift, things should look amazingly good. Unfortunately, if they don't, they will not be getting better as things continue to heal. Often times, lifts are performed and excess skin is removed, but jowls and laxity under the chin remain. This is due to the fact that the underlying SMAS and muscle were not adequately released and addressed during the procedure. Often times, rather sophisticated facelift techniques are necessary to give patients the youthful neckline they desire. Not all surgeons can perform these more sophisticated techniques. I would need to personally evaluate your anatomy to determine the best course of action, but in virtually all circumstances, an extended SMAS deep plane facelift with customized platysmaplasty will correct all of a patient's concerning features of lower face aging. All with only 1-2 weeks of downtime.

Had 36 Units of Botox in Frown Lines and it Started Wearing Off After 3 Weeks, Normal?

I recently had 36 units of botox for frown lines and 3 weeks later I am still able to scrowl. I went to a "spa" type place, and when I called them, they said to come in and I would need more?!?! I have been getting botox for a couple of years and this is the first time I have ever had so much in that area.Is this normal?

Updated Information 11/30/11

Thank you all for the helpful replies. I went back today and recieved another 10 units, totaling 46 units just for frown lines another 110.00. I used to go to a plastic suregeon in Texas, 25 units for frown lines and eyes. The best results I have ever had!I will only go to a plastic surgeon from now on, and with the replies, I dont know if they didnt hit the muscles, diluted it or have bad Botox. I have picts from pre and post Botox. No difference! I will have to find a plastic surgeon here.

A: Botox should last more than 3 weeks

There are three areas that Botox can be placed:  In the wrong muscle, in no muscle, and in the correct muscle. Only the last gives you a good result. I'd recommend seeing an injector with a large amount of experience with Botox, and a great understanding of the aesthetic field. You can usually find these specialists as board certified facial plastic surgeons, plastic surgeons, or even some dermatologists. Registered nurses directly associated with these types of specialists can be excellent as well. I'm confident you will be very happy with future treatments.

Do You Always Need Multiple Kenalog Injections?

Hello, I had an open revision rhinoplasty 17 months ago. I was experiencing intermittent swelling. 4 wks ago, my surgeon injected kenalog into my nose. It has helped greatly in refining my nose and it looks just how I wanted it to. My question is, will this effect last? Is more than one injection always necessary? I am afraid that it will swell again once the medication wears off. I do have fairly thin nasal skin - I think because it was a revision I just had too much scar tissue under the skin

A: Kenalog injections common for revision rhinoplasty

I routinely perform kenalog injections for my revision rhinoplasty patients on an as neeeded basis. Most, if not nearly all revision rhinoplasty patients will have persistent swelling in the nose that will create the need for an injection of the steroid solution. This is typically a permanent improvement, but if needed, the injections can be repeated. I have had a few patients over the years that required multiple kenalog injections to ultimately give them the result that we wanted. Be patient and keep your follow-ups with your surgeon.
