Ptosis in Asian Eyelids

I am a 32 year old Asian female and I was diagnosed as left eye ptosis (2mm-2.5mm). My oculoplastic surgeon suggested an internal incision method based on the fact that I responded well to the neo eye drops. I have the following questions: 1.Is mullerectomy more difficult to perform on Asian eyelids because of the eyelid structure difference? 2.Can you recommend a good oculoplastic surgeon who is experienced in repairing Asian eyelid ptosis in the Washington DC area?

A: Ptosis in Asian Eyelids

With a good response to phenylephrine and a ptosis in the 2 mm - 2.5 mm range,  an internal approach (conjunctival muellerectomy)   should be an optimal approach.  The eyelid structural differences seen in Asian eyelids should not make the operation more difficult to perform.  In fact,  those differences and the fact that the ptosis is unilateral are both reasons that make the internal approach a more compelling option.

Best wishes on your surgery.

Blepharoplasty to Fix my Droopy Eyes.

Dear Doctors, I'm 28 years old Asian girl and I've been considering having surgery to fix my droopy eyelids for a long time. It is so annoying when people tell me I look tired, lazy, sad all the time. I want to look more awake and alert after the surgery. Is it also possible for me to go for eyes surgery to make my eyes bigger?

A: Ptosis surgery fixes the lifting muscle in a droopy eyelid

The pictures you uploaded show Ptosis of both upper lids.  This is usually the result of a problem with the tendon (aponeurosis) or the lifting muscle itself in the lid.  Blepharoplasty alone will not solve this problem.

A careful evaluation by an oculoplastic surgeon experienced with ptosis surgery and with eyelid surgery in Asian patients would be a great starting point.

Hope this helps.

Asian Blepharoplasty

is the asian blepharoplasty the exact same thing as the double eyelid surgery procedure? i'm sure you already posted this here somewhere, but pls do tell me what it entails. thank you doctor.

A: Double eyelid procedure is a type of Asian Blepharoplasty

There are many variations of Asian blepharoplasty.  For blepharoplasty of the Asian upper eyelids some patients are looking to decrease the amount of hooding of skin or to diminish puffiness while others may be interested in achieving more prominent eyelid crease in each upper lid or better symmetry between the two eyelids.

It is very important for the patient to know approximately what he or she is hoping to achieve.  It is equally critical that the surgeon listen carefully to ascertain  the patient's goals and that he or she has considerable experience performing eyelid surgery in patients of Asian ethnicity.

Hope this helps.
