Common Complications for a Diastasis Repair Via Mini-tummy Tuck?

Are there any complications caused by a diastasis abdomen condition, and if so, is a mini tummy tuck the only corrective option I have?

A: Diastasis Recti, Tummy Tuck

Diastasis, or separation, of the rectus abdominis muscles (the six pack) is a common condition after pregnancy or large weight gain and has no medical consequences other than a rounder abdomen. It is usually repaired during a tummy tuck to get a flatter younger looking contour for the abdomen. It is uncommon now to do mini tucks because the full tuck gives so much better overall results. You would really need to see a board certified Plastic Surgeon to examine you and give you the options that would help you meet your goals.

Can a Mini Tummy Tuck Stretch Back Out?

After a mini tummy tuck, Is it possible for the sutures to stay in place while the fascia around it stretches back out? I have heard that this can happen, and if so, why does this happen and what can be done about it? My recent mini tummy tuck stretched back out but my sutures are still in place but the surgeon doesnt really know what to do about it.

A: Mini Tummy tuck stretching out after surgery

Yes it can, however unless you gain and lose a lot of weight or become pregnant this is unusual .

Can Belly Button Be Repaired During Mini Tummy Tuck?

I believe I'm a good candidate for mini abdominoplasty. I've only had one child (I only gained 30 pounds of fat, which I've mostly lost) and don't have stretchmarks on my tummy (just a few on my hips and they are very small).

I have a pooch and some fat that protrudes from the bellybotton and below. My belly button is slightly wrinkled. It's not very noticeable until I sit down but it bothers me. It doesn't look youthful or sexy. Could it be repaired during a Mini Tummy Tuck? I feel my case doesn't require a full abdominoplasty. Thanks so much!!

A: Mini tummy tuck insteady of full abdominoplasty

Although you most likely are a candidate for a mini, you will probably see a much better result from a full abdominoplasty.

Both procedures will tighten your belly button and flatten your lower tummy bulge however the full abdominoplasty will remove 5-6 times as much skin and flatten your entire tummy much more.

The downside is a slightly longer scar and a slightly longer recovery. If you are finished with your family, a full tummy will not only improve your appearance more it will last much longer as your skin continues to stretch.

I never recommend doing a bigger procedure unless the results warrant it. However in this case most likely you will look much better with the full, even though you would qualify for a mini.
