How Much Time Is Allowed To Lapse Between Each Hair Laser Treatment?

I had 3 treatments so far each spaced 8-9 weeks apart. I will need to travel in summer for 3-4 months or more. Will it affect my treatment progress if i wait that long until my 4th session?

A: Allow enough time between laser hair removal treatments for adequate hair re-growth

You need to space your treatments to allow enough time for ample re-growth.  If you have no hair, you are not effectively treating the area, since the laser needs the pigment in the hair to treat the follicle.  It sounds like your current treatments are spaced fairly adequately - you can even drag it out longer between visits as your treatments progress.  More importantly, since you said you were traveling during the summer, check with your provider since sun exposure and color on skin will affect how most lasers will respond to your skin. You might need to wait for future treatment if you get too much sun exposure and pigment in your skin changes.

Is the Laser Hair Removal Still Effective Even if There is No Sign of Hair?

I am currently asking this question because I am not on my 3rd session and I have notice very little hair growth and I have been on scheduled sessions the first 5wks, second 6wks, and the 3rd 7wks, my fouth session is also set at 7wks. Theres very little hair growth less than 10 hairs each area. I have had my bikini, full legs, and under arms done. I always see that in this foro that the patient should have hair so that the laser can effectively penetrate the follicles but if there’s no hair?

A: Need to allow time for hair regrowth between treatments

It sounds like your treatments have been scheduled way too close together.  Weekly hair removal treatments in the same area will not be effective.  You need some re-growth in order to treat the follicle, otherwise you are wasting your time.  Hopefully you purchased your hair removal treatments at a reputable clinic and they will allow you to space your treatments with more time than a single week in between.  I would recommend at least 6-8 weeks (more as treatments progress) between treatments.

What's the Best Laser Hair Removal Machine?

The clinics near me offer a number of different laser machines. names like Light Sheer, IPL, Yag, Duet, Cool Glide.  What do the medical expert here think works best in laser hair removal?  --Julie

A: What determines the ideal laser or IPL (Intense Pulsed...

What determines the ideal laser or IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) for hair removal is determined by the skin color of the person, as well as the color, thickness, and location of the hair. Choosing the correct device and the correct setting requires a great deal of experience on the part of the person performing the treatment. The most popular lasers for hair removal, in the order of efficacy, include:

  • IPL with filters of 645 nm, 695 nm, and 755 nm (such as the Lumenis Epilight or Vasulight)
  • Diode lasers with 810 nm wavelength (such as the Comet by Syneron)
  • Alexandrite laser with wavelength 755 nm (such as Candela GentleLase or Apogee)
