Can I Have Cheek Implants While I Have Existing Radiesse?

I have had six 1.5cc syringes of Radiesse injected in my cheeks over the past two years. The last two were injected in October 2011. I would like to have combined malar implant surgery in March 2012. How would the Radiesse affect the implant surgery? Should I wait? If so, how long?

A: Cheek implants with existing Radiesse

It is certainly acceptable to undergo cheek augmentation after having Radiesse placed in the cheek area.  Though, in order to select the best implant shape and size, it would be better to wait until most of the filler has dissolved,. The cheek implants are inserted directly over the bone and all the Radiesse will be located above the implant.  The implants are placed through an intraoral approach usually under a general anesthesia and the Radiesse will not be in the same surgical plane as the implants.

Would Cheek and Jaw Angle Implants Help for Young Adult Man? (photo)

I have always had a lack of cheek projection under the eye (as can be seen in my photos). Only the lateral zygomatic arch seems to protrude. How well would malar and mandible angle implants fit my face? would I need to get them slightly rounded to fit my nose/chin/forehead? Will Malar implants slightly disguise the dark horizontal lines between my upper cheek and orbits? I like my appearance much better when I smile or have light directly on my face (such as in the flash photo I posted).

A: Implants for cheeks

Cheek hypoplasia is best treated with malar implants inserted intraorally and placed directly over the maxilla.  These implants are usually made of silastic and are used to augment the natural cheek area.  Occasionally submalar implants are used and are placed below the zygomatic arch.  Malar implants will not disguise any horizontal lines between the upper cheeks and the orbits.

How Can I Restore my Cheeks 10 Years After Buccal Fat Removal? (photo)

I had *bolsas de bichat* removed (I think that's Spanish for buccal fat pads) a decade ago. Now I look completely different. My face is flat and not as attractive. What can I do to look like before? What's the best option: implants, fillers, or any other ideas? If using Radiesse, how much would be necessary to look like before?

A: Restoring volume to cheeks

The options for filling the cheeks out include placing cheek implants into the malar or submalar space to give more volumetric augmentation to the cheeks.  This is a permanent solution.  Fillers are usually a temporary solution and will require repetitive injections.
